The Associate Editor is a key member of the Collected Editions team, responsible for supporting the development and production of archival collected editions, remastered reprints, new material, and other reprint formats. This role involves curating content, drafting and editing copy for covers and interior pages, and coordinating cross-functional workflows to ensure each book meets DC's publishing standards. The Associate Editor works closely with periodical editors and internal teams to deliver high-quality publications that reflect the creative vision and editorial excellence of DC Comics.
Your Role Accountabilities…
• Support the Collected Editions (CE) team by creating bookmaps, drafting text, and providing layout instructions for CE books compiled from previously published material.
• Manage the production workflow for facsimile comics, including sourcing files, coordinating with talent for retailer-exclusive covers, reviewing dyluxes, and submitting final print files for approval.
• Collaborate with the Production Editor on ISBN refreshes, reprints, and modern CE titles, and develop solicit copy for DC Connect catalogs, including placeholder cover art for Marketing.
• Review dummy books and design materials for accuracy, identifying and resolving issues related to artwork viability, creative direction, and scheduling. Consolidate and coordinate feedback from internal departments and talent for all book components, including print and bind specifications.
• Project manage CE titles across departments including Design, Production, Marketing, Legal, and Editorial to ensure books meet project milestones, in-store release dates, and quality standards.
• Troubleshoot and resolve concerns related to book creation, including art viability, creative priorities, and scheduling; provide final recommendations on all book materials, including print and bind components, ensuring compliance with DC's publishing standards.
• Manage administrative tasks such as filing CE titles with the Library of Congress and approving freelancer vouchers in coordination with CE Editorial and Finance.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience…
Work Experience
• At least five (5) years of Editorial experience required, preferably at the Assistant Editor level or above.
• At least two (2) years of experience in the comic book, print publishing, or a related field preferred.
Education, Professional Training, Technical Training or Certification
• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience required.
Knowledge and Skills
• Must have the ability to communicate effectively and tactfully (both verbally and in writing) with individuals and groups at all levels of the organization, as well as with external stakeholders (such as vendors).
• Must have the ability to successfully work in a team environment and interact with other people.
• Must have the ability to organize, work well under time constraints, meet deadlines, and manage multiple tasks and project elements simultaneously.
• Must have the ability to pay close attention to details and handle confidential material.
• Copyediting and proofreading skills required, including proficiency with standard proofreading marks.
• Knowledge of art, and the ability to discuss composition, color, and design required.
• Knowledge of core comic book mythologies and terminology required; preference given to candidates with experience in the comic book industry.
• Proficiency using Microsoft Office software (such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and Adobe Creative Cloud software (such as Acrobat, Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign) required.
Other Requirements
• Must be able to travel as needed approximately 5% of the time.
