WAMU 88.5 is seeking a Senior Producer for our program, 1A.
If you are an experienced Senior Producer who seek to join a mission-driven organization, you may be the person we're looking for.
WAMU is Washington DC's leading public radio station for NPR news and information. It's our mission to connect Washingtonians with each other and the world through balanced, enlightening, inspiring and entertaining programs of the highest quality.
1A is a show about a changing America. Host Joshua Johnson convenes a daily conversation about the most important issues of our time.
The Senior Producer for 1A, working with minimal supervision from the Executive Producer, generates ambitious short and long-term coverage plans, oversees a small production team, and builds strategic partnerships for a nationally distributed live news talk show with a presence across multiple digital media platforms. The Senior Producer for 1A oversees the research and assignment of a wide range of political, cultural, sport, literary, and social topics; and the conceptualization and shaping of compelling stories on air and online.
This position reports directly to the Executive Producer and is part of WAMU's Content division. The Senior Producer for 1A oversees 2-4 producers and a number of part-time producers.
Your experience and attributes:
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
• 7-10 years of experience in journalism and media, with at least 5 years working at a national level.
• 2-5 years experience managing a team.
• Extensive news experience working on tight deadlines.
• Exceptional editorial judgment.
• Superb oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to identify trends and to generate and execute complex creative ideas.
• Keen understanding of national and international current events, and excellent news and narrative judgment
• Ability to manage several complex projects simultaneously and assimilate large amounts of information efficiently under daily deadline pressures.
• Proficiency with audio editing and multimedia production.
• Experience creating content for Facebook, Twitter and other emerging platforms.
• Experience working with content management systems (CMS).
• Proven ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
• Proven ability to identify and vet dynamic and sought-after national and international guests.
