Job Summary:
The Graphics Manager will oversee a shift specific team of approximately 3 people accountable for the timely graphic ingest and creation activity for the Disney Media Networks, including Disney Channel Networks, Freeform, FX Networks, National Geographic Networks, and ABC Television Network. This position reports to the Senior Manager, Network Origination. A successful candidate in this role must have the ability to self-motivate and drive a team towards meeting short term and long term graphic processing deadlines, while collaborating with his or her peers to ensure on-time delivery of compliant content. This position will hold oversight of all graphical ingest, final renders and playout of graphics. The Manager will lead collaborative efforts between external vendors and internal partners such as Marketing and Programming to ensure a high level of customer service to various clients and define best business practices. This person will serve as a representative of an operations management team accountable for process efficiency, customer service, and overall integrity of the department and its workflows.
Responsibilities:
• Manage and lead a team who is responsible for performing the processing and management of graphic media assets in a results-driven environment
• Accountable for graphics ingest activity, media preparation, delivery and playout
• Ingest & Quality Control (QC) of both finished and unfinished content
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical anomalies both prior to and during playout of graphics
• Prep and render graphical elements as needed for playout and customer preview
• Perform file delivery of finished graphics files to playout automation devices
• Work with clients including network Art Directors to create graphics templates and version final graphics using Adobe After Effects
• Oversee the management of graphics archives and metadata
• Work (as needed) on pre-air playback validation independently and with clients
• Manipulation of automation and secondary graphics event triggering
• Be a subject matter expert in all department databases and software (Imagine Versio, GRIP-IT, etc)
• Lead and develop a strong, high functioning team that's able to effectively and efficiently execute assignments
• Ensure the prompt resolution of high level issues related to file integrity, media attributes, and content compliance
• Interface with Operations Technology peers on equipment maintenance issues and graphics device system performance
• Track department productivity and compliancy metrics to ensure optimum efficiency and quality of services
• Author Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and document department processes
• Seek opportunities to improve existing processes and implement new technology
• Assist team in developing, maintaining and enforcing media management, storage and content security policies
• Conduct ad-hoc analyses to support operational/technology decision making and special projects
• Provide opportunities for skill development and technical training for team members as technology, workflows and best business practices constantly evolve
• Mentor team members and create an environment that encourages personal and departmental growth
• Build and maintain high quality relationships with all internal & external partners
• Must be able to work wide ranging shifts including swing, weekends and holidays
Basic Qualifications:
• A minimum of at 2 years' experience in television, streaming, post-production or media field
• Must be an experienced user of Adobe Photoshop and/or After Effects
• Must be able to understand and calculate timecode quickly and effectively
• Results oriented with the ability to balance other business considerations
• Must be a team player with exceptional communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills
• Understanding of basic video formats (SD, HD, UHD, HD-HDR and video and audio standards (SMPTE)
• Strong understanding of audio/video file formats and codecs
• Must work well with little or no supervision and have a strong attention to detail
• Strong understanding of production and post-production workflows and best practices
• Proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office (esp. Outlook and Excel)
• Proactive problem-solving and critical thinking skills
• Must be self-motivated, organized and communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing
• Must be able to lead, train and motivate a team
Preferred Qualifications:
• Strong knowledge of television network operations that may include traffic planning and timing calculation, signal flow, measurement tools and signal elements
• Strong interest in current industry technologies and developments
• Familiarity with streaming media platforms (e.g., Netflix, Fire TV, Hulu, etc.)
• Experience with playout automation system
• Graphics creation are a plus, including knowledge of industry trends in the graphics space
Required Education
Bachelor's degree or certificate in a field related to media, broadcast, engineering, communications, computer science OR equivalent work experience
