Job Summary:
The Director, Production Finance is responsible for assisting the VP, Production Finance in the day to day operations of the finance department, utilizing their deep understanding of production accounting, the film making process, and in particular, all aspects of complex multinational long-form content. The ideal candidate will have hands on experience with a variety of Feature Film productions (both foreign and domestic), managing production incentives, studio reporting, and accounting teams in the field. The Director, Production Finance must also be familiar with and accustomed to working in environments with high levels of confidentiality, and be able to provide quick and accurate analysis for a variety of complex and evolving production challenges.
Responsibilities:
• Works with VP, Production Finance to source and hire location production accounting teams for projects (including Disney, Disney , 20th Century Studios, and Searchlight Pictures)
• Anticipates production finance set up needs and works integrally with various studio departments (tax, legal, labor relations, etc.) to implement systems and workflow in international and domestic jurisdictions
• Works with budgeting department and Studio Executives to prepare initial budget drafts and cost summaries for projects
• Reviews work in progress / final budgets, and Cost Report EFC's for accuracy, providing coverage of concerns to the VP, Production Finance and Production, VFX and Post Production Executives
• Oversees preparation of production incentive filings for all entities and regions
• Continually evaluates policy and procedure based on necessary compliance, audit review, and periodic changes in the location environment(s) – inclusive of tax, payroll and banking considerations
• Manages multiple production accounting teams through everyday challenges of production across multiple projects
• Leads in-house field audits for projects under $100M gross
• Manages the production funding processes on Long-form projects from end to end – including Foreign Currency pre-buy purchase planning and hedging
• Reconciles all funding and Production Incentives between production and corporate
• Reviews SAP Y-bill activity and liaises with project accountants; submits to productions for inclusion in cost
• Provides support to VP, Production Finance on special projects, as required
Basic Qualifications:
• 10 years of experience in Feature Film production accounting
• Excellent oral and written communication skills required
• Diplomacy, discretion, confidentiality, versatility and reliability are critical
• Must have excellent organizational skills, be flexible, and have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with all levels of personnel
• Ability to prioritize work and be very detail oriented
• Strong computer skills and proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite (word, excel, PowerPoint, etc.) Production Accounting Software (PSL , Global Vista, SmartAccounting) and Movie Magic Budgeting
• SAP knowledge/skills a plus
Required Education
• Bachelor's degree in a related field such as Finance, Accounting, etc.
