The Apprentice Program:
Join us for an opportunity to experience the art of animation and be a part of Walt Disney Animation Studios. The Talent Development Apprentice Program is an immersive experience available for recent college graduates within three years of graduation for a 3, 6, or 12 month paid position. Under the guidance of a Disney Mentor, the Talent Development Apprentice Program offers a unique opportunity to hone and understand skills, refine and strengthen key disciplines, and engage in a real-time production environment.
The Apprentice Program is based in Burbank, California, and begins September 2015. The deadline for applications is extended to August 14, 2015, 11:59PM PST.
The VisDev Trainee:
Visual Development Artists visually explore the diverse elements of a film's story including character design, set design, costume design, color schemes, lighting concepts, and inspiring visualization of key story moments.
In addition, they should be able to execute specific character turnaround poses as well as detailed illustrations needed to expedite modeling and texturing.
We're looking for trainees who have a rich imagination, a sense of caricature, and skilled in appeal, color, design, anatomy, architecture, as well as perspective and composition.
We at Walt Disney Animation Studios Art Department are a team of dedicated lifelong "students" who teach, tutor, push, challenge, and inspire each other. Ideally, our apprentices will engender fresh, unexpected viewpoints and new ways to look at our work and our workplace. We encourage original thinkers who inspire new ideas while respecting the Disney legacy for family friendly entertainment and appeal. We offer a creatively challenging sandbox ready for the new kids who know how much they need to learn but also suspect they have a few new tricks of their own to teach us.
To apply for this position you must include a resume, portfolio, and a profile creation or update at careers.disneyanimation.com.
Portfolios/demonstrated skills should include:
• Character designs in a range of styles and archetypes, all with specific and clear personality and appeal
• Paintings and environment designs that demonstrate a wide range of technique, from classical to stylized with strong sense of composition, color theory, and narrative (preferably with characters interacting in the environments)
• Life drawings and sketches a plus
• Exposure to the art of animation through an independent or collaborative film project(s) helpful
• Uploaded multipage PDF version of portfolio preferred
