Full Time Job
We're currently looking for talented Apprentice Story Artists to help us push our emotional storytelling to new and entertaining heights and join our legacy of animated filmmaking!
Our Talent Development Program is offering emerging artists a track focused on the art of storyboarding. Under the guidance of a Disney Mentor, the Talent Development Program offers a unique opportunity to hone and refine skills in our real-time production environment for a 3, 6, 9, or 12 month paid position. For this particular program, there are no graduation date requirements to apply.
Apprentice Story Artist
Our Story Artists translate ideas into visual sequences. They serve the structure of a film by developing the film's cinematography, scene structure, and create character emotion and humor as necessary to the story's needs. They collaboratively solve story and structure problems and maximize the entertainment value of a film.
As an Apprentice Story Artist, the first 6 months are structured to introduce you to the art of our story process. A 3 month, 6 month, and 9 month review determines future assignments to production. Under the mentorship of the Story Team, Apprentices will participate in a real time production experience.
The Apprentice Program is based in our Burbank, California studio and begins October 2019. The deadline for applications is August 11, 2019, 11:59pm PST.
To apply you must upload a resume and a portfolio consisting of continuity sequences of your storyboard work. If submitting a portfolio, it should be formatted as a multipage PDF file so that each board is its own page so we can click through your sequences board by board. If submitting an animatic, it should be formatted as a .mov or .mp4 file. Animatics submitted as video-sharing links such as Youtube or Vimeo will also be accepted. Portfolios not submitted in the required formatting will not be considered for the program.
Portfolios Should Demonstrate/Include:
• Continuity storyboard sequences focused on character emotion and relationships
• Sequences do not need to be a full film in length but should have a clear beginning, middle, and end with emotional beats and a turning point in the scene
• Understanding of subtle, nuanced acting and entertainment value that service and define the characters
• Gestural drawings, the ability to draw very loosely yet with clarity and appeal
• Understanding of cinematic staging and cutting
• Life/Observational Drawings required
• Sketchbook Samples required
• Character Moments helpful
• Student Films helpful
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
