Summary
We are looking for a Studio Technical Engineer to join our VSI Los Angeles Studio and oversee all Audio/Video technical related matters.
You will report to the VSI Los Angeles' Operations Manager and you will get support from our UK headquarters' Technical Services and IT departments as well as local external support entities.
A proven track record in Audio and Video engineering is required.
You will work closely with Executive Management to maintain the VSI Los Angeles operation consisting of two facilities composed of top notch recording/mixing studios and Edit/QC suites.
You will help ensure that technical procedures are in place for VSI LA to run local production of Dubbing, Subtitling, and Media Asset Management, including Quality Control and Electronic Delivery of content.
Key responsibilities
Working in conjunction with the Operations and General Managers of North America, you will be responsible for:
§ Diagnose, troubleshoot, resolve and keep logs of all Audio/Video technical issues
§ Help documenting the technical infrastructure after the recent build-out of our new VSI LA Main site
§ Participate in the security task force to ensure that strict security requirements are met
§ Ensure that an up-to-date asset inventory for all technology related items is maintained
§ Assist with computer hardware and software upgrades
§ Record events and problems and their resolution in logs
§ Audio equipment installation and day to day maintenance assuring technical excellence from recording to final delivery
§ Establish and manage procedures for data I/O with Production teams, external stakeholders etc.
§ Together with IT, set internal procedures related to storage, backup and archival with a clear secure file/folder path structure to be easily followed by both in-house and freelance operators
§ Help establish new workflows allowing the company to offer additional technical services
§ Technology watch on new equipment, best practices and possible new services to offer to the market
§ Attending technical seminars and conferences as needed to learn new skills, expand contact network staying up to date with latest industry advances
§ Responsible for elaborating and keeping a budget and making any needed purchases within the department
§ Document and maintain hardware inventory and software licensing
§ Assist in the research and execution of special projects to increase productivity and quality of work
Skills and Experience
§ Avid Pro Tools + Avid control surfaces + plug-ins expertise required
§ Advanced working knowledge of multi-channel sound delivery formats including 5.1, 7.1 and Dolby Atmos, and audio signal types (Analog, AES, MADI, SDI, Dante, BluLink)
§ Strong knowledge of B-chain system design, setup and alignment
§ Proven sound engineering background in long and short form programming
§ Professional experience in audio engineering/editing/studio environment.
§ Good working knowledge of digital video formats and transcoding including IMF and Dolby vision formats
§ Experience in audio and video Quality Control practices
§ Solid understanding of loudness standards and different delivery specifications
§ Strong and efficient computer literacy (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, plus experience with project management, flowcharting and database software) using both PC and MAC
§ Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to build good working relationships in person or remotely
§ Ability to work independently and on own initiative
§ Excellent organizational and time management skills, multi-tasking, planning and risk management skills and the ability to delegate responsibilities effectively
§ Established network of contacts amongst sound technicians
§ A keen attention to detail, working with tight deadlines and operating within budgetary constraints
