DESCRIPTION: We are seeking a skilled and creative Editor to join the post-production team for a feature-length (60-90 min) documentary about a pioneering figure in medical technology and the evolution of modern electrocardiography. The film explores innovation, collaboration, and the human side of scientific discovery - in the spirit of The Mayo Clinic: Faith, Hope, Science.
We've conducted 20+ in-depth interviews, and have a strong library of stills, B-roll, and cinematic footage. The next step is crafting an assembly that brings these elements together with thoughtful pacing, archival placeholders, and a strong emotional throughline.
The ideal candidate has:
* 5+ years experience editing documentaries (feature or broadcast)
* Experience with science, healthcare, or biography storytelling preferred
* Strong sense of pacing, structure, and emotional tone
* Skilled in Premiere Pro (preferred)
* Comfortable sourcing archival/stock footage and using placeholders
* Excellent communication and time management
* Comfort collaborating closely with the director
Responsibilities include:
* Review and log interviews (approx. 20 hours total)
* Create a compelling assembly edit based on transcripts and story beats
* Incorporate B-roll, stills, drone footage, and archival/stock placeholders
* Identify gaps where stock, animation, or diagrams may enhance the story
* Deliver a strong narrative rough cut, leading to picture lock
We're looking for someone who loves shaping real stories about real people - and who finds meaning in the intersection of science, humanity, and discovery.
