Full Time Job
A Video Editor/Encoder works under the general supervision of a Sr. Manager. Editors have a mix of creative and technical responsibilities including video and audio editing, media transcoding, authoring closed captions and subtitles for compliance with FCC and ADA rules, choosing stills to represent the content on different platforms, and mastering content to meet the delivery requirements of internal and external distribution partners. Multiplatform distribution is dynamic. Our partners’ needs and requirements are constantly changing.
Accordingly, we expect editors to adaptively plan, make contributions to continuously improve our workflows and to work collaboratively with their partners on the operations team - communicating openly, clearly, and generously - so that coordination of effort and organization improves on a regular basis. Beyond the operations team, Editors partner with Social and Site producers from VMN brands in an order/fulfillment peering arrangement: Producers order the content they need produced and distributed; editors fulfill these orders. Theirs is a partnership that involves an ongoing dialog. Fulfillment of requests requires a general understanding of the creative brief, source material, delivery requirements of the endpoint medium content is being delivered to, and the transformations required to bring media packages into compliance with those delivery requirements.
This work involves the use of Viacom proprietary library and asset management tools for sourcing materials. Editors also coordinate effort with copy writers, copy editors, graphic designers, site content managers (CMS), media managers, press, brand creative, and content strategists in the course of an average day. This is work with many intersections, dependencies and points of coordination. Active listening and good communication skills are critical for this role as we manage clients across the brands and across the enterprise who work and communicate in a variety of styles. So, the ability to flex communications style according to the audience is an essential skill.
