Senior Director, Global Consumer Insights- Viacom International
The Viacom Global Consumer Insights team, is seeking an enthusiastic Senior Director, Global Consumer Insights to support certain consumer insights projects on behalf of Viacom’s suite of brands. Under the SVP, and working closely with the rest of the team, the Senior Director shares overall responsibility for primary research and consumer insights around Viacom’s multi-brand VOD offerings. This includes providing consumer-driven insights on the rapidly changing and complex audience and landscape of VOD – user and audience insights, marketing, communications-, including, but not limited to the Viacom AVOD offering Pluto TV.
The position requires strong research skills and superior attention to detail as well as the ability to see patterns and connect insights among consumers. A passion for media is a must.
Responsibilities include:
• Ownership of the consumer insights approach to Viacom’s O&O multi-brand VOD offerings in close consultation with the SVP and wider team, becoming the resident expert on this topic. Directly manage and execute on qualitative and quantitative consumer insights initiatives including commission, design and leadership of projects across primary and secondary efforts with external vendors and in-house. Provide consumer-based guidance informing business decisions on topics currently including, but are not limited to:
• O&O VOD platform user and audience insights projects including profiling, user personas, NPS, etc of Viacom’s O&O multi-brand VOD offerings
• Positioning, marketing and brand development research and insights on said platforms
• Insights support for product feature development and platform prioritization/expansion
• Work with separate UX research team to infuse broader insights and elevate usefulness for wider teams
• Insights projects to support further development of O&O and third-party acquisition content strategy and planning for AVOD products
• Deepen and manage internal partner relationships with VOD product teams to ensure needs are identified, infused into CI planning processes, delivered on, and leveraged throughout the organization as best possible
• Advocate and foster usage of all generated insights throughout the organization, keep track of benefits and analyze return on insights
• Manage and execute on additional delegated qualitative and quantitative consumer insights initiatives on broad topic areas as the wider team and business require
• Work closely with the rest of the team and other insights groups to leverage developments, systems and processes where possible as well as roll out information/projects to wider business teams where relevant
• Contribute to on-going thought leadership work and serve as a valuable resource for consumer trends, attitudes and media behaviors
• Execute on some delegated RFP processes and administrative tasks for primary research projects including Purchase Orders, Finance and Legal
Basic Qualifications
• 10 years primary research experience, preferable in the media field
• Experience with working in an international environment
• Bachelor’s degree
Additional Qualifications
• Good working knowledge of primary research approaches and potential suppliers
• The ability to manage multiple projects and changing priorities effectively in a complex, fast-paced business environment
• Flexibility and willingness to manage some projects with additional support or external vendors as well as “getting stuck in” on other projects executing directly without relying on external support depending on business need
• Strong capability to work with multiple stakeholders and peers, adapt communication and management style to achieve overall collaboration
• The ability to work on own initiative and without close supervision while keeping SVP and the wider team closely involved
• Must be able to manage research projects from brief through to completion with a high quality of insights being delivered out of each project
• A high level of accuracy and attention to detail is essential
• Strong analytic and project management abilities as well as the skill to turn data into insights and tell stories
• Fluency in English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong PC and PowerPoint skills a must
• The ability to be diplomatic with a high level of cultural sensitivity
