Channel 5 is the UK’s third largest commercial channel and reaches 44m viewers every month with a spirited mix of high quality and emotive content. Since September 2014, the Channel 5 portfolio of channels has been owned by Viacom International Media Networks who have increased investment in programming.
The content ranges from original factual programmes GPs: Behind Closed Doors and The Yorkshire Vet to the smash hit entertainment format Lip Sync Battle UK; highly acclaimed history programmes Rome and Britain’s Bloodiest Dynasty to stunning natural history series Loch Lomond; ground breaking documentary series Gangland to blockbuster US series Will and Grace, and original comedy series Borderline. The family of channels include 5STAR, the fun loving home of some of the biggest dramas, soaps, entertainment shows and movies from the US and UK; 5USA the definitive place to see the best drama and movies direct from the US and 5Spike is the exhilarating channel with a programming mix that is different to anything else on British television. Paramount Network which has recently launched is home to some of the biggest stars and biggest characters that Hollywood has to offer. 5Select, which airs only the best content from across the 5 portfolio of channels, and is more upmarket/ABC1 focused. The portfolio is completed by My5, the most widely available commercial on-demand service available across multiple platforms.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
We are looking for a Marketing Exec to join the Channel 5 Marketing team. The C5 Marketing team are responsible for marketing C5’s family of channels, showcasing the best content available and challenging the current content perceptions, delivering campaigns that build reputation and reach. We are a dynamic and energetic team and sit at the heart of what C5 is all about – great TV.
It has never been a more exciting time to join the team, particularly following a successful rebrand in February 2016, and more recently, the largest Brand marketing campaign the channel has undertaken, “At Home on 5” – which launched in March of 2018. C5 has gone from strength-to-strength as the only commercial FTA network to grow share of all adults YOY and increase its share of the valuable 16-34 demo by 5%. This role is a key position within the C5 marketing team and requires someone with a strong knowledge of broadcasting to continue building on the channels success.
Reporting to the Brand Manager /Senior Brand Manager, the Marketing Executive will be actively involved in all aspects of delivering the marketing communications and campaigns for Channel 5. The channel has a constant stream of high profile series including popular factual series like Cruising with Jane McDonald, GPs: Behind Closed Doors, The Yorkshire Vet and Dog Rescuers, entertainment shows like Gino’s Win your Wish list and Blind Date, ground-breaking documentary series Michael Palin in North Korea and Gangland and US series Will and Grace and Friends. We’re looking for a motivated self-starter who’s looking to play a pivotal role in the continued evolution of the channel.
You will be responsible for ensuring that campaigns follow the agreed process, are delivered to brief and on time. Working in a support capacity for through-the-line campaigns and other major projects (including delivery of campaign elements, project timelines, budget sheets, WIP reports, meeting facilitation etc), the successful candidate will need to communicate effectively and work closely with a number of internal stakeholders, e.g. creative, PR, digital, Channel Heads and commissioning, as well as external agencies and stakeholders.
You will be passionate about television and have an interest in some of the biggest shows on C5 and the family of channels. You will be well versed in presenting to, challenging and managing senior stakeholders with confidence. In this role, it is vital that you have excellent attention to detail, and are able to build a rapport with industry contacts at international studios and the UK indies. You must be self-motivated, possess integrity and be able to work autonomously. You work across the full C5 family of channels.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Campaign Management
• Work alongside the Brand Manager /Senior Brand Manager to deliver on and off air communication for Channel 5 campaigns, in line with the brand strategy for the channel
• Responsible for the delivery of on-air promos
• Ensure all output regarding the channel brand is correct, in line with the marketing guidelines for the channels and communicating key message priorities
• Be the go to person for all brand related queries in respect of these channels and the point of approval for any brand creative across the business
• Work with Legal and Compliance to ensure all regulations are adhered to in creative
• Building PCAs, case studies, outlining key insights post campaign and tracking/sharing of best practices
• Assist team in building presentations for key internal and external meetings
• Liaising with production and distribution partners regarding key assets and materials including imagery, footage and copyright
• Prepare content priority slides for affiliates
• Act as marketing representative for Channel, Commissioning and Acquisition meetings
• Keep ahead of developments in the field of marketing, maintaining links with the industry and incorporating fresh research or approaches into marketing plans where relevant
• Create, plan and optimise all project plans, status sheets and decks for the channel marketing team on a daily basis
• Build strong relationships with the channel teams including PR, Scheduling, Media Planning, Commissioning, Sky Media, Digital and Legal
• Manage the team budget

• Good understanding of the TV business and Channel 5’s competitive set -
• Keep ahead of developments in the field of marketing, maintaining links with the industry and incorporating fresh research/approaches into marketing plans
• Stay up to date on market trends and competitor activity
• Support the Brand Manager / Senior Brand Manager and VP of Marketing to build close working relationships with external agencies e.g. media, creative and digital
