Overview
Manager-level copywriter/editor who develops and writes corporate and creative materials that position individual services and the company as a whole for all ViacomCBS audiences including employees, partners, investors, press and, less frequently, consumers.
The ideal candidate will have a strong focus and experience in digital and social media including website copy and digital campaigns. Develops effective materials across these platforms and all others. Educates team on groundbreaking and creative use of platforms.
The position is responsible for adhering to budgets on each specific creative project, which can range from several hundred to several thousand dollars.
The Copywriter position develops promotional materials, which increases awareness, sales and visibility among advertisers, affiliates and viewers; builds relationships with business partners; and helps increase distribution for all networks; and attracts and retains talent, thus growing company revenue. As a copywriter, this position adheres to strict project deadlines, thus avoiding late charges and allowing for quick release of corporate materials
This position will communicate internally, with presidents, executive vice presidents, senior vice presidents, vice presidents, directors, managers, coordinators, freelancers, assistants and producers from virtually every department throughout the company. As well as externally, with entertainment company partners, nonprofit organization partners, advertising/digital/event agencies, publicists, researchers, publishers, editors, politicians, political staff members, legal departments, reporters, producers and external freelance writers/artists.
Responsibilities
• Works on multiplatform campaigns and single ads; event and marketing collateral; name and tagline generation; scripting (live and video), mid- and long-form editorial pieces and more.
• Collaborates with team to conceive and develop original, creative concepts rooted in strategic foundation; writes materials that creatively bring ViacomCBS brand, priorities, initiatives, programs and more to life in ways that drive action.
• Optimally develops and delivers presentations of work to both internal Creative & Strategy approvers and partners.
• Collaborates with team to generate creative/brand strategies and marketing plans that guide and deliver creative content
• Work with Project Managers to ensure direction, deadlines and budgets are met on each project.
• Has deep understanding of the company (ViacomCBS business, priorities and strategies), the media/entertainment industry and the connections between the two. Can clearly articulate corporate, divisional, and brand strategy.
• Builds client relationships and develop strong working partnerships.
• Meets regularly with editorial/brand strategy team to discuss process, creativity, strategy, departmental and company priorities and more.
• Proofreads all self-generated copy, checking for accuracy, as well as spelling, grammar and style.
• Developing and writing original, creative work that effectively communicate a client's business objectives.
• Maintain high accuracy and editorial excellence in own work and work of others
• Maintaining and enforcing overall editorial style
• Collaborating within and across various fields and departments including design, digital, video, project management and production
• Meeting deadlines, working well under pressure and balancing many projects
• Writing in a variety of styles (ad copywriting, speech-writing, long-form editorial writing, etc.) and voices while adhering to ViacomCBS brand (on most projects)
• Presenting work
• Ensuring accuracy on all self-generated materials
• Staying up-to-date with company and industry priorities and news
Basic Qualifications
• Undergraduate degree required. English or Advertising major preferred.
• 5 years demonstrated experience in copywriting, advertising, creative concepting, campaigns, editorial writing, strategic branding, speech/scriptwriting; Agency and media experience a plus
