Job Purpose
This is an exciting time in Channel 5’s digital evolution as we embark on the development of an ambitious new suite of My5 products. Channel 5 is seeking an exceptional individual to drive forward the product development and continuous optimisation of this new generation of My5 VOD applications.
Reporting to the Director of Product, the successful candidate will take ownership of a portfolio of digital products and manage their entire life-cycle from research, through to development, product launch and into continuous optimisation, to meet Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) commercial, consumer and brand objectives.
The Product Manager will work with key teams within UKNEE Digital, in particular Digital Analytics, VoD Content and Solutions and also third-party suppliers.
Essential Qualities
• You should have a passion for digital products, the television industry, and its future development.
• Be a natural problem solver capable of driving a user-centred approach to product discovery and development.
• Be comfortable leading experimentation and testing to prove user and business value and determine what features or enhancements we should develop, including interviewing users
• Be highly organised in your approach, detail oriented whilst being capable of understanding the broader business context of your decisions.
• Be a confident communicator, able to lead meetings, workshops and discussions with suppliers, stakeholders and colleagues
• Strong analytical capabilities, able to interrogate statistical data and make evidence based decisions on where to focus effort.
Key Role Responsibilities
• Lead the entire product life-cycle, including design, discovery, planning, grooming, product acceptance, and launch
• Using research, competitor analysis, understanding of our customers and how they use our products and knowledge of the wider digital landscape to suggest and assess product opportunities and ideas.
• Measure and improve the effectiveness of the product development process.
• Maintain up-to-date product roadmaps to reflect changing priorities and communicate passionately and regularly to the business.
• Form collaborative relationships with our technology colleagues, business stakeholders and third-party suppliers to ensure that their input is considered and valued and the output (whether workflow or feature deliveries meet the budget, deadline and expected quality)
• Manage a prioritised backlog of product ideas, defining product requirements and acceptance criteria
• Monitor status of ongoing work and articulate progress, dependencies, and risks to the product team, engineering and other stakeholders
• Stay on top of industry changes, through self-research/learning that may have a direct impact on product
• Lead product meetings, workshops, sprint demos and demonstrate good presentation and speaking skills
Skills and experience
• Experience in working within agile software development preferably at enterprise scale.
• Demonstrable experience in a digital product role. We will consider candidates coming from technical, UXD, analysis or other related backgrounds.
• Experience working with Mobile and desktop VOD products an advantage
• Demonstrable ability to lead and take ownership of problems
• Task management, problem-solving skills and the ability to manage internal and external relations.
• Positive and strong team player with a good work ethic
