Viacom’s Advertising Science team uses data science to empower and bring value and data-driven decision-making to our Ad Solutions department. We are looking for a Junior Data Scientist to join our ambitious, multidisciplinary team to help drive the future of Advanced Advertising analytics.
The Junior Data Scientist will be responsible for supporting our Senior Data Scientists in building advertising data products that put innovative and insightful intelligence in the hands of our Ad Solutions team. You will work with unique and proprietary TV, digital, and social media measurement data-sets that help generate insights, and in turn drive our ad sales business forward. The ideal candidate will also help generate solutions for ongoing projects, involving some of the industry’s most challenging initiatives such as cross-platform measurement, attribution modeling, and media-mix modeling.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Support Senior Data Scientists in data cleaning, model development, coding and validation
• Synthesize and leverage proprietary and third-party data sets in novel ways to enhance learnings that inform and advance current research methodologies
• Utilize cross-platform viewership data (linear television, digital, and social) to create thoughtful and innovative audience analyses in order to solve industry-wide challenges and support key internal research initiatives
• Generate compelling storytelling research pieces that position Viacom as the premier media partner for advertisers
• Conduct analyses and data modeling to uncover leading edge trends in consumer and media behaviors and attitudes
• Apply Data Science fundamentals to elevate the utility and validity of current media research data sources
• Parlay knowledge and learnings to broader advertising research community at Viacom to improve traditional methodologies and inspire the adoption of next generation analytics across the organization
Basic Qualifications
• BS or MS in relevant field (data science, computer science, engineering, mathematics, statistics or other STEM field)
• 1 to 3 years of professional background in machine learning and/or statistics
Additional Qualifications
• Knowledge of the media industry and multi-platform media measurement (Nielsen, comScore, social platforms, etc.) a plus
• Intermediate or higher experience with SQL, and Python for data loading and transformation
• Familiarity with statistical modeling and machine learning tools in R or Python
• Ability to solve difficult and unstructured problems strategically and think creatively
• Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate data in a clear and effective manner to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Highly organized, strong attention to detail, ability to work under pressure and multitask
• Experience with cloud computing technologies such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud Platform. AWS experience preferred. Serverless experience a plus
• Exposure to big data and associated technologies - experience with model training/validation, messy data cleaning, and feature engineering all at scale
• Experience working in a version-controlled development environment
• Experience with containerization technologies
• Experience interfacing and working with engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle
