WHO WE ARE:
Elephant House Studios (EHS), the BAFTA nominated production arm of Channel 5, currently produces 125 hours of content each year for Channel 5, MTV and Comedy Central.
We are now pitching to the wider UK market, building relationships with and creating ideas for all major broadcasters.
We’ve also got our eye on the international market, and are looking at opportunities to work abroad in the future.
WHO YOU ARE:
You’ll be a very senior Production Executive, or experienced Head of Production, with a significant track record of selling and delivering great content in a range of genres.
You’ll be an experienced programme maker, with a ton of experience as a Production Manager on a range of output, in a range of genres, at a range of price points.
You’ll know how to deal with broadcasters and talk to production teams, large and small.
You’ll have experience of working in the independent production sector, and will be well known to the production community.
You’ll be widely respected by programme makers, able to attract, inspire and retain the very best people.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
• Work with the Creative team to prepare programme budgets and production schedules for all our output
• Build strong relationships with all our broadcast partners, and sell programmes to them at the right price
• Hire and manage a support team to ensure all our programmes are well supported by Production Management
• Review, implement and oversee appropriate controls to ensure our output is delivered on time, and on budget
• Manage and develop our in-house (three person) production management team
• Control and monitor programme budgets, working with the teams to balance editorial ambition, and spend
• Be aware of current outside practices and costs in order to assess each item of the budget
• Oversee and/or lead deals (where required) with external suppliers
• Oversee and/or lead deals with on-screen talent, and be aware of deals being done with production talent
• Work closely with our in-house post production team, ensuring maximum use of the resource
• Work closely with Viacom’s technical support team, on matters including IT, and kit provision and hire
• Help track (with Finance and the VP) the spend of each area of Development against pre-agreed budgets
• Attend Management Meetings at EHS, and contribute as a key member of the senior management team
• Work closely with the finance team and the VP to ensure the Department’s financial health and profitability
• Ensure all shows are adequately and fully insured, in a timely fashion
• Work with the VP to ensure all commercial opportunities are identified and monetized, where possible
• Establish and run a regular ‘PFC’ meeting, tracking the priorities of the Production, Finance and Legal teams
• Prepare and distribute minutes of all ‘PFC’ meetings, including to the Senior Managers
• As part of the Senior Management Team, help set a departmental ‘tone’ that makes EHS ‘a great place to work’
• Organise the smooth running of the Department’s general operations
• Manage, support and develop the role of the Department Administrator
• Be aware of all new hires, and oversee the allocation of desks for each production and employee
• Work with the Talent Manager and Departmental Administrator to ensure new hires are properly contracted
• Help the existing team build a new system for on-boarding, and managing the exit of freelance hires
• Attend a fortnightly London Operations Committee to identify and manage the needs of the department
• Lead our Health and Safety responsibilities, including ensuring production risks are adequately assessed
• Organize and attend a quarterly H S meeting for EHS, and attend meetings for Viacom on behalf of EHS
• With the Talent Manager, ensure the appropriate staffing requirements for programmes are met
• Liaise with HR where on matters concerning recruitment, selection, development and welfare of our teams
• Mentor our Production Management intern, ensuring they get the very best from their time with EHS
• Contribute to special projects where required, with the VP and Senior Management team
• Undertake other duties which are reasonable and appropriate to the post
YOU WILL HAVE:
• Significant experience as a Production Manager and Executive (at least), and preferably as a Head of Production
• A wide range of production management experience across a range of genres (Factual, Entertainment, Reality and Comedy preferably)
• A great and proven reputation for ensuring programmes are delivered on time
• Good relationships with UK broadcasters, preferably including Channel 5 and the Viacom UK brands
• A desire to help EHS reach its full potential, with previous experience of growing a department or company
• A strong work ethic, balanced by a desire to ensure work is fun for you and all the teams
• Great relationships with key suppliers in the TV market
YOU WILL BE:
• A senior Production Executive with significant experience in a large independent production company, ready for the next step, or a proven Head of Production looking for a new challenge
• Able to juggle a significant number of simultaneous production simultaneously
• Keen to identify and work with hires at all levels, from all backgrounds
• Someone who is ready and willing to roll up their sleeves and dive in to a fast growing, busy production department, helping all our team reach their full potential and ensuring we continue to deliver great programmes at sensible prices, on time and on budget
• Flexible in your working methodology, and keen to work with a large range of people across a range of genres
• Fully conversant in Excel, with some Health and Safety training (PMI / SAP is not vital)
NICE TO HAVES:
• A knowledge of scripted production would be useful, but is not essential
• A first-hand knowledge of the needs of UK broadcasters would be an advantage
