WHAT ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
VIS is the in house production arm of Viacom, is looking to hire a senior programme maker to oversee all of the Scripted programmes and series produced for Viacom’s suite of Channels as well as for external clients. Able to appoint and manage senior creatives, the chosen candidate will become a key part of the VIS management team, working closely with both the Channel commissioners and the in-house development team to manage and grow existing brands, create and grow new series and specials, and build and manage relationships with on and off screen talent. Rapidly grow our portfolio of external clients and co-financing partners.
WHAT IS THE ROLE
• Provide an expert level of knowledge and approach to Scripted Programming
• Pitch strong ideas to external clients between broadcasters, platform etc to raise funds.
• Delivery of series on time and on budget, whilst meeting the editorial aspirations of the external and internal clients
• Hiring and management of great programme makers, working with the VIS management team and the clients to ensure the people we hire are best suited to the needs of the commissions
• Management of the relationships with the clients, building and maintaining strong working relationships with the Commissioning Editors and Channel heads
• Working with the in-house development team to ensure the strongest ideas are being generated at all times, honed to the needs of the Channel(s)
• The ability to work from the development stage to delivery within the confines of the tariffs available.
• Overseeing the production and aiding the development of ideas which can be sold internationally, and/or which have opportunities for commercial exploitation
• Lead and develop a Development Producer to support Scripted programming and individual career growth
WHAT SKILLS DO YOU NEED
• Significant experience working as an Executive Producer and/or above in the television industry, making a broad range of Scripted programmes and series on a variety of budgets for different broadcasters / platforms
• A strong working knowledge of the demands and aspirations of Viacom and its clients, both in the UK and Internationally
• Demonstrable experience of pitching idea’s to range of clients
• The proven ability to work closely with an internal development team, helping them create ideas and formats which meet the requirements of the broadcasters, and thereby helping the department hit its commercial targets
• A good knowledge of the off-screen talent market, and the ability to attract and hire the very best programme makers
• Strong relationships with, and a good working knowledge of, on-screen talent and their agents, so that we can develop and grow more brands with relevant talent attached
• A flexible approach to budget management, and a proven ability to deliver great content on sometimes challenging tariffs
• A proven ability to work across multiple shows and/or series simultaneously, balancing the needs of each show separately and yet delivering all projects on time and on budget
• A knowledge of international markets, helping us ensure the programmes we make are sellable and lend themselves to commercial exploitation
