Full Time Job
The Copy Editor/Director writes, oversees and ensures timeliness, relevance and editorial excellence of content and copy for all ongoing internal communications and various internal and external materials and campaigns created by Viacom’s in-house creative studio, Viacom Catalyst. An additional primary challenge is to set and maintain the highest standards of accuracy and timeliness of all Viacom Catalyst projects and to work with other staff members to uphold those standards. Includes editing, fact checking and proofreading all copy generated by Viacom Catalyst at all stages of a project, across all media.
• Works across the team to translate business objectives into creative communications for internal and external audiences. Partners closely with staff on the most effective visual and verbal execution of projects and presents work to internal stakeholders and clients to present work
• Ensures that the team is adhering to the latest brand guides and standards and that projects reflect overall company strategic brand positioning
• Serves as central aggregator within the department of corporate information, including style guides, logos, fact checking, etc. Also monitors and aggregates latest developments in style/copy/language/usage externally in the industry, determine how these relate to Catalyst and Viacom as a whole and communicate these to the staff through meetings, documents, presentations, etc. Keeps employees and resources up to date with the latest style/language/usage and brand information and communicates these in a way that is useful to the department. Works across teams to update materials in a timely manner
• Continually examines proofing/editing/routing procedures for the copy and entire department and works with teams to ensure adherence to process
• Oversees Editorial Coordinator
• Works alongside VP Brand Strategy and Senior Copy Director to aggregate, assess and oversee freelancer proofreaders as needed, either in-house or external
Basic Qualifications
• 5-8 years of editorial experience, with both strong writing and editing background; experience proofreading and editing
• Experience managing people
• Bachelor's Degree

• Ability to work with design, video, project management and production staff

• Knowledge of marketplace/industry
