WHAT IS THE ROLE
As Commercial Manager, Video On Demand, you take a lead role in working with VIMN’s major distribution partners in the UK on VOD distribution, including schedule volumes, windowing, monetisation, UI promotion and merchandising, and marketing / comms. Within VIMN, you will be the commercial lead on creating and managing a holistic view of VIMN’s BVOD, AVOD and SVOD distribution initiatives in the UK. You will contribute commercial expertise and a commercial perspective to decisions relating the scheduling and supply of Viacom UK’s VOD content to major 3rd party platforms, always setting decisions in the context of an aggregated AVOD, SVOD and BVOD commercial strategy for third party platforms and owned & operated platforms. You will be a part of the commercial and content distribution team and will work cross-functionally across the business by fostering close relationships with primary stakeholders such as Nickelodeon, MTV, Comedy Central and Channel 5 VOD, marketing and editorial teams. You will also forge close partnerships with VIMN’s advertising and research and insight teams, as well as maintain direct relationships major platform partners.
Strategy and revenue generation
• Work with commercial team to develop a cross-brand SVOD, BVOD and AVOD commercial framework for VIMN UK
• Help devise strategic and tactical commercial initiatives for VOD licensing and AVOD and oversee the planning, implementation, execution and performance of these - always looking for new commercial opportunities
• Support brand teams with general VOD strategy, communicating with the brand teams on current and new commercial opportunities, providing the brand teams with a commercial understanding of context of the market and the competition.
• Work with Commercial & Content Distribution stakeholders in deal structuring, negotiation and proposition formulation.
Distribution Partners and Owned & Controlled Platforms
• Understand key distribution / platform partners’ overall goals and opportunities and create commercial opportunities and insight for brand teams from this.
• Develop and maintain relationships with key third party platforms including regularly scheduled calls and / or meetings and responding to ad-hoc requests
• Identify new opportunities to drive content engagement and KPIs through UI and merchandising proposals across Sky’s Homescreens, Catch Up, Sky Go etc. and across Sky’s on-demand propositions (i.e. Box Sets and Ultimate on Demand), as well as contribute insights and ideas to the teams managing VIMN’s owned & operated VOD services
Management Metrics and Stakeholder Management
• Act as commercial lead on VOD for brand teams, advertising, research and analytics.
• Assist in the creation of holistic cross-brand operational and financial forecasts
• Shape the cope of analysis and reporting of relevant VOD distribution KPIs – including the monitoring revenue generation across SVOD, BVOD and AVOD distribution - and the use of those KPIs to further inform and refine the SVOD, BVOD and AVOD distribution strategy for VIMN UK
• Communicate clearly the progress of monthly/quarterly initiatives to key internal stakeholders
WHAT SKILLS DO YOU NEED
• Experience in some of the following areas: editorial curation, merchandising, broadcast, scheduling, digital, SVOD, AVOD, BVOD, streaming and web technologies
• Knowledge of the UK TV/SVOD marketplace including an understanding of the role of channel brands and their content windows and editorial dynamics
• Experience in working in a complex cross-functional, partner-focussed organisation
• Ability to communicate very clearly with both internal stakeholders and external partners
• Strong problem solving and analytical skills, with the ability to identify opportunities through data and insight
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills. You will be required to present on a regular basis to senior stakeholders and the business.
• Sound experience of concept selling
• A desire to understand future technologies and commercial opportunities, with a good understanding of the media planning and buying process
