This position is responsible for assisting in developing and executing the Industrial Relations strategy and providing effective day-to-day administration and interpretation of Paramount’s collective bargaining agreements as required by Paramount Management.
Responsibilities
to include, but not limited to:
• Assists in the cost effective production of Paramount features, television programs and new media programs through the accurate administration and interpretation of all collective bargaining agreements
• Assists in the cost effective operation of the Studio back-lot through the accurate administration and interpretation of all Collective Bargaining Agreements and creation of tracking systems and polices.
• Assists with the goal of handling of labor grievances by investigating and evaluating all circumstances surrounding a grievance, evaluating the contractual positions, determining the validity and monetary impact on Paramount and negotiating the liability and/or financial settlement with the union representative
• Assists with arbitrations that are not resolved in the grievance process
• Assists with the development of Paramount’s position in the negotiation of collective bargaining agreements
• Identifies and analyzes problem areas of existing contracts requiring revision
• Works with unions and outside agencies in securing interpretations or waivers that are favorable to Paramount
• Oversees the maintenance of all labor rosters including safety training and their respective requirements and ensures their proper utilization as an informational source in response to inquiries posed by the unions and Paramount management
• Provides day-to-day counseling and advice to business partners in the Motion Picture Group, Paramount Television, Paramount Players, Animation and the Studio Group on matters relating to labor relations
• Assists with the goal of handling investigations and advises Paramount management on disciplinary and personnel matters involving union employees and assists in developing and implementing a performance improvement plan, as requested
• Assists in ensuring compliance with the administrative obligations under the Collective Bargaining Agreements
• Assists in training union personnel including supervisory personnel
• Participates as needed in various industry committees
• Assists with investigating audit claims from various Pension & Health Funds
• Assists in providing oversight of outside counsel relating to civil litigation
• Assist in the handling of administrative charges from the EEOC, DFEH, Labor Commissioner and NLRB
Basic Qualifications
• JD degree from an accredited Law School. Bar admission required; excellent academic credentials
• Bachelor’s degree
• 3 years litigation experience preferred
• Litigation skills/experience
• Negotiations skills/experience
• Ability to read and understand contract language
• Must be proficient with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Analytical and strategic in formulating solutions
• A motivated self-starter who is comfortable taking initiative and able to work in a fast paced environment, multi-task, prioritize and manage projects
• Good oral/written communication and interpersonal skill to effectively interface with management and union representatives
Additional Qualifications
• Experience with bargaining agreements and union/management relations preferred
• Experience in labor and employment field preferred
• Basic knowledge of labor and employment law is preferred
