How do I hire a Creature Rigging Artist? Versatile Media Ltd. is a successful media company that has been a recognized and trusted production hub for over 30 years. We have recently opened a studio in Vancouver, Canada with a sole focus on virtual production workflows for film and TV production using real-time rendering technology as well as creating original animation and live action IP.
Versatile blends creativity with the latest technology in our purpose-built facility that includes two performance capture stages, full of pioneering technology that includes motion capture, 4D photogrammetry dome creating immense full body and facial scanning data, that form as part of our advanced creature pipeline that delivers production results within a real-time game engine. Our LED stages for live action filming are set to be built over the next few months.
At the moment we are a small and highly engaged artistic and programming team with a common ambition of advancing a seamless Virtual Production pipeline for our own Intellectual Properties, co-productions, and for our clients.
We are very excited for the future of film making and being at the forefront of a digital transformation that will bridge technology with creative storytelling.
Our studio is currently working remotely (WFH) and our physical space in East Vancouver is located at the newly built Ironworks building in the Port Town neighbourhood.

Versatile Media is looking for an Intermediate Creature Rigging Artist who is interested in the exciting new field of Virtual Production. Bring your skills and passion to help us develop the next generation of animation and film making tools.
The function of a Creature Rigging Artist at Versatile Media is to work closely with the Asset team and CG Supervisor to build rigging and creature FX systems for organic models, hard-surfaced models, and props.
Reports to the CG Supervisor.
Accountable and Responsible for...
-Design efficient rigs appropriate to the production's needs.
-Develop and maintain an efficient dynamics setup for muscles and/or cloth for various creatures.
-Work with modeling team on suitability of models for rigging and any changes needed;
-Work with the CG team implementing the rigs and rigging the assets.
-Work with leads and supervisors in the testing of rigged assets.
-During production, support all the rigged assets.
Qualifications and Requirements…
-Must be Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident
-Minimum 3+ years of experience in a similar role within the gaming or VFX industry.
-Degree or relevant experience in VFX, Gaming, Computer Graphics
-Proficient in current Maya rigging techniques.
-Experience with muscle and cloth simulations for creature FX a must.
-Knowledge of creature rigging using Anim Blueprints in Unreal Engine a bonus.
-Proficient in Python a must. We will ask for code samples.
-Knowledge of PySide and PyQt a bonus but not required.
-Desire to work with new machine learning rigging techniques and procedures.
-Experience with Ziva Dynamics toolset a plus.
-Experience developing and maintaining tools for use in a studio pipeline.
-Able to work independently when required.
-Excellent time management skills.
-Must be able to mentor other team members and share knowledge in our small team.
-Strong solution based trouble-shooting skills.
-Excellent English communication skills both verbal and written.
-Ability to communicate in Mandarin a plus but not required.
-Up-to-date reel and resume showcasing required skills.
