This is a Full Time Job
Variety is seeking a Senior Film Reporter to write investigative stories on the Hollywood studios and streamers, as well as interview key decision makers and artists. The ideal candidate is a skilled and dynamic writer, with a deep knowledge of the movie business and a Rolodex of high-level sources. The senior reporter should not only be able to break news but should also be able to write analytical pieces about the industry. The role requires someone who can write on tight deadlines for the web, as well as contribute cover stories and features for our weekly magazine. This position can be located in either our Los Angeles or New York City office.
What You’ll Do:
• Write timely and thought-provoking articles, including handling breaking news stories for our website and magazine.
• Break exclusive stories and land high impact interviews with actors, directors, studio chiefs and business leaders.
• Maintain an extensive network of sources, including studio executives, managers, agents, and filmmakers.
• Collaborate with Variety’s editorial team on attention-getting stories, while working closely with our social media and digital team to ensure that your articles are promoted across platforms.
• Cover and appear at industry events, including major film festivals, panels and premieres.
• Appear as an expert voice on TV and radio and serve as a moderator at Variety sponsored summits and events.
Qualifications:
• 6 years of experience at a print or digital media outlet, with an emphasis on entertainment and business.
• Strong writing and headline skills.
• An ability to engage with a digital audience.
• Curiosity about various forms of storytelling.
• Proven ability to break news and deliver features that move the needle.
• High-level organizational skills and a willingness to juggle multiple assignments at once.
