Variety seeks a London-based journalist who is well-sourced and has a deep knowledge of the U.K.'s entertainment industry, as well as the international festival circuit, to serve as London Bureau Chief for the venerable brand.
The high-volume job will involve writing for all Variety platforms with an emphasis on U.K. film and media, covering production and financial news, as well as industry analysis, in-depth stories and interviews with high-profile talent, filmmakers and executives. The role also requires covering events, major film festivals, as well as doing public speaking and media appearances on Variety's behalf at Variety-produced events and outside events.
The ideal candidate is a senior writer with management skills who is able to juggle short-term and long-term assignments, as well coordinate the U.K. coverage and collaborate with the rest of the international team.
The ideal candidate has experience working in a busy newsroom and is able to teamwork with a range of other writers and editors.
The ideal candidate has a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a reporter/editor covering entertainment in the U.K.
Duties include:
• Writing news stories, analysis and interviews in relation to the U.K. film industry for Variety platforms.
• Breaking news on your beat.
• Keeping up with multiple short-term and long-term assignments for the web and magazine.
• Writing occasional in-depth cover stories.
• Building posts in WordPress and gathering photos for your work.
• Brainstorming with the international team and the larger editorial team about areas of coverage.
• Public speaking and media appearances on Variety's behalf.
Requirements:
• 5 years’ experience as a reporter/editor covering entertainment.
• 3 years’ experience of writing entertainment-related reviews.
