Vancouver Film School programs focus on industries that use moving images, graphics, sound and text as fundamental components for communication, information and story. VFS programs regularly and continually evolve in response to the current industry methodology, technology and need. VFS offers world recognized, full-time, one-year programs in Film Production, 3D Animation & Visual Effects, Classical Animation, Digital Character Animation, Sound Design, Writing, Acting, Makeup Design, Digital Design, Game Design, Foundation Visual Art & Design, and Entertainment Business Management. These one-year programs are intensive, focused on the field of study and immerse students in industry-like settings and situations in order to best prepare them for work in their chosen field.
Since 1987, Film Production at VFS has commanded worldwide respect thanks to an innovative curriculum, a faculty of film and TV industry professionals, and alumni who are celebrated at the Emmys, Independent Spirits, and major festivals.
VFS is currently accepting applications for three new full-time positions in its Film Production program:
• Head of Producing
• Head of Production Design
• Head of Post Production.
Preference will be given to candidates with MFA degrees in film production, post-secondary-level teaching experience, and significant professional film credits. The successful candidate will develop curriculum, oversee faculty, teach, and manage the day-to-day and long-term vision of their track.
Core Responsibilities:
•Work with the Head of the Film Department to develop new and evolving courses and a curriculum that integrates the various aspects of the program into a coherent, professional educational experience.
•Manage the day to day and long term vision of the track he/she supervises.
•Hire and supervise full and part-time instructors.
•Teach introductory and advanced level classes.
Skills, Experience and Education:
•An M.F.A degree in film production preferred.
•Post-secondary-level teaching experience and/or a significant record of professional achievement with associated film credits.
•The successful candidate must have the ability to work effectively with faculty, students, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
•Ability to lead workshops, lectures and seminars.
•Excellent communication, organizational, time management and interpersonal skills.
•Critical thinking and problem solving skills.
Head of Producing:
In addition to meeting the above-mentioned requirements, the successful candidate will have produced feature films and be capable of teaching creative producing and production management, project development, issues in entertainment law and contracts, budgeting and scheduling, global film financing and sales, and current modes of distribution and exhibition.
Head of Production Design:
In addition to meeting the above-mention requirements, the successful candidate will have feature and/or long form television credits as a Production Designer and/or Art Director and be capable of teaching all aspects of production design for film, including traditional practices and digital programs.
Head of Post-Production:
In addition to meeting the above-mention requirements, the successful candidate will have feature credits as a Picture Editor and be capable of teaching Final Cut Pro Studio, Avid, After Effects and other relevant applications and have an intimate familiarity with all aspects of post-production, including cutting sound effects, music editing and mixing.
