This is a Full Time Job
The Director of Team Security is responsible for the safety and security of Utah Jazz players and staff while participating in NBA and/or team sanctioned, games, events and related activities while traveling, at Vivint Smart Home Arena, and in the greater Salt Lake community.
All full-time and part-employees of the Utah Jazz are required to be fully vaccinated (fully vaccinated is defined as two weeks after your final dose). DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Team Travel:
• Travel with the team to all road games during the NBA pre-season, regular season and post-season NBA Playoffs as well as any off-season trips as needed.
• Ensure the safety and security of players, staff, and company property while traveling.
• Assist with travel requirements to and from destinations.
• Ensure members of the traveling party are on the airplane and bus at the scheduled time, and no personal items are left behind.
• Assist equipment manager with monitoring all luggage and equipment until it is stored and/or delivered to player and staff rooms upon arrival at the hotel.
• Coordinate with each road venue and team personnel regarding security and emergency response procedures as well as any concerns.
• Establish and manage relationship with hotel security.
• Provide security at team-related basketball events as needed.
• Security/Intelligence:
• Secure the practice facility during practice times.
• Attend all team practices at home and on the road.
• Provide security for player appearances scheduled by the organization as necessary.
• Attend events hosted by players for security purposes on request.
• Provide guidance on appropriate security measures to anyone hosting players for events, appearances, etc.
• Assist players, coaches and staff with cyber security issues or threats.
• Investigate and report any relevant or unusual situations that develop.
• NBA Security:
• Develop and maintain a working relationship with NBA security representatives and all other applicable personnel.
• Facilitate regular communication to maintain awareness and mitigate any current security concerns or issues.
• Participate in conference calls with NBA Security.
• Attend annual NBA Security Conference.
• Home and Away Game Security:
• Develop and maintain a working relationship with arena security directors and all other security personnel.
• Ensure security measures for arrival and departure of players, their families, and vehicles are adequate
• Attend the NBA security briefing prior to the start of all games.
• Monitor activity and communication between the fans and players around the bench.
• Assist referees on the court with player altercations and instant replay review.
• Escort players and coaches ejected from the game to the locker room.
• Compliance/Player Support
• Assist players in complying with all state and federal laws, and NBA guidelines relating to firearms, driver license, and motor vehicle registration.
• Conduct security surveys for player residences on request.
• Assist player development representative with off-the-court training.
• Attend scheduled player development meetings and conferences.
• Communication/Relationships:
• Help players and coaches understand the role of the Team Security Professional.
• Manage communication and develop relationships with federal, state and local law enforcement, and NBA officials.
• Establish relationships with management and security personnel of venues frequented by players.
• Administration:
• Develop and implement security plans as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
• Law enforcement, military, or executive protection training and experience.
• Ability to think quickly through situations, handle real-time issues and present solutions required.
• Ability to interact with coaches, players, and other staff and persuade various personality types required.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently without supervision, taking initiative when necessary.
• Ability to take direction and follow-up.
• Ability to work collaboratively with others.
• Strong teamwork and team synergy skills required.
• Excellent ability to establish rapport with others and build strong interpersonal relationships.
• Exhibit good judgment and decision-making skills.
• Available and willing to travel extensively, work extended hours, including nights, weekends and holidays.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Position will be required to stand and be on feet for prolonged periods of time.
• Occasional lifting of heavier objects up to 35 lbs. necessary when setting up and breaking down.
