Position Reports To: Lauren Rhyne, Director, Educational Resources
Position Background:
The Educational Resources Intern contributes to the execution of the strategic plan for USA Baseball's governance within the amateur game. This individual will be part of a team that is working jointly with Major League Baseball (MLB) on the improvement of the experience within amateur programming, increasing participation rates and improving player safety. This is a full-time internship, which will report to the Director of Educational Resources.
USA Baseball will work alongside its partners at MLB on the continued proliferation of new programming that will target three main areas; health and safety, participation and governance. The organization will be the day-to-day lead on the operation of these initiatives while receiving logistical, political and financial support from MLB.
USABaseball.com, the organization's primary communication vehicle with its constituents, fans and event participants, is hosted and supported by Major League Baseball Advanced Media (MLBAM) through a long-term strategic business partnership. The partnership with MLBAM also includes support for PlayBall.org and PitchSmart.org which house much of the organizations Sport Development content. Additional SafeSport specific and educational content can be found at SportDev.org. In addition to these websites and associated blogs, USA Baseball maintains a rapidly evolving social media presence on Facebook (260,000 Likes), Twitter (140,000 followers) and Instagram (501,000 followers).
Position Responsibilities:
• Create and post content for educational initiatives
• Create and manage social media schedule for educational assets for Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
• Communicate with and support MLB on youth and health of the sport related initiatives such as Pitch Smart and PLAY BALL
• Coordinate support and promotion with USA Baseball's National Member Organizations to help grow the game of baseball
• Research and analyze existing trends within baseball and other sports
• Participate in program creation from conceptual to launch phase
• Perform a wide range of operational duties associated with new programs and events developed within the department
Basic Qualifications:
• All candidates must demonstrate computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint
• Must have an excellent attitude and work well in a team setting
• Flexible and adaptable work schedule for changing organizational needs
• Passionate about baseball
Preferred Qualifications:
• Previous program research and event management experience
• Adobe Photoshop experience (not required)
Required Education:
• • In possession of or working towards an Associate, Bachelor or Master Degree.
About USA Baseball:
USA Baseball is the National Governing Body for the sport of baseball in the United States and is a member of the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) and the World Baseball Softball Confederation. The organization selects and trains the Olympic, Pan Am, Premier 12 and World Baseball Classic teams (and all other USA Baseball Professional Teams); the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team; the USA Baseball 18U, 15U and 12U National Teams; and the USA Baseball Women's National Team, all of which participate in various international competitions each year.
