Universal Pictures International (UPI) is the International Distribution and Marketing division for Universal Pictures. In the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, France, Korea, Australia, Mexico, Hong Kong and China, UPI directly markets and distributes movies through its local offices, creating campaigns and release strategies that respond to the culture and market behaviour of those territories. In other parts of the world, UPI partners with Paramount and Sony in the distribution of all three companies' films. Universal Pictures is part of NBCUniversal, one of the world's leading media and entertainment companies in the development, production, and marketing of entertainment, news, and information to a global audience. NBCUniversal is a subsidiary of Comcast Corporation.
The UK Publicity Manager will be responsibile for devising and implementing publicity campaigns from conception to final delivery for designated Universal theatrical releases.
• Create and manage the talent schedules for each junket
• Lead talent activity at junkets and premieres
• Manage outside PR agencies and suppliers
• Provide professional growth among team members giving clear instruction and guidance in developing skills
• Develop and nurture strong relationships with various media outlets, working across print, broadcast and online
• Lead on content creator initiatives, owning and developing excellent relationships across influencer landscape
• Lead ideation and management of events including screenings and press trips
• Manage the budget on designated releases
• Work closely with the marketing managers, media promotions manager, online agency, UK sales team and EMEA/Global Publicity teams to ensure the strategic direction for each release is successfully implemented to plan.
Campaign Development:
• Work closely with the Head of Publicity on each designated Universal theatrical title to develop a strategic publicity plan through to release
• Responsible for organising and facilitating kick-off brainstorms for each film to ensure that each film has a strong raft of creative ideas specific to its objectives and strategy and subject matter
• Pitch access on productions
• Build effective working relationships across marketing, promotions and sales, reporting on campaign progress
Budget:
• Responsible for managing the budget on designated theatrical releases
• Work to main campaign budgets and maintain budget reconciliation
• Take a lead role in supplier negotiations
Communication:
• Host as needs require regular team updates to ensure the publicity team are generating fresh and relevant ideas, that campaigns are evolving in line with expectations of the release and that the campaign remains on strategy
• Communicate and work with UK production companies and film-makers from production onwards
• Schedule regular updates with the Head of Publicity
Reporting:
• Act as principal point of contact on the title and report back on status
• Ensure that regular reports are available on each title
Creative:
• Ensure that all communication going out is within strategy and guidelines
• Proactively ensure the publicity team deliver campaigns which encompass all areas of media
Innovation
• Seek out new and different approaches and ideas to bring freshness to each film. Ensure that recommended ideas are within strategy
• Proactively bring new and different ideas and examples of innovative publicityâ€'' whether tactical or strategic â€'' to the attention of the publicity team to spark new thinking
Qualifications
• Thorough knowledge of the UK media and publicity landscape, both traditional and emerging
• Proven experience on UK theatrical campaigns
• Strong negotiation and organisational skills
• Commitment to innovation with track record of identifying and delivering media ‘firsts'
• Strong management skills
• Ability to plan, organise and prioritise workload effectively working to tight deadlines
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, adept at dealing with talent and representatives
• The ability to think creatively and pay attention to detail
• Good organisational skills and flexibility
