Full Time Job
Universal Pictures International (UPI) is the International Distribution and Marketing division for Universal Pictures. In the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, France, Korea, Australia, Mexico, Hong Kong and China, UPI directly markets and distributes movies through its local offices, creating campaigns and release strategies that respond to the culture and market behaviour of those territories. In other parts of the world, UPI partners with Paramount and Sony in the distribution of all three companies' films. The UK Marketing Director is primarily responsible for the implementation of integrated 360 industry leading marketing campaigns for the Universal UK slate, whilst also:
• Optimizing marketing spend across all platforms in addition to synergies, insight & efficiencies, managing multi-million-pound budgets.
• People leadership responsibility for the Publicity, Media, Insights, Brand Promotions, Creative, and Trade Marketing
• Leading regular multi-disciplinary meetings bringing together all teams (Marketing, Publicity, Special Projects, Partnerships, Sales, Media agency) to ensure campaigns remain on-strategy and all stakeholders have full visibility to campaign developments at all times.
• Managing media agency relationship including contract negotiations.
• Developing the marketing team's capability, competencies, skills, and experience.
• Interpreting and reporting on marketing analytics, tracking and measurement. Ensuring that what is being done is linked to business plan objectives with positive ROI and other value-for-money measures.
• Developing initiatives and deliver best-practice campaigns in order to ensure UPI delivers market-leading campaigns.
• Managing the creation & review of all relevant marketing material with the support of Team EMEA and HO.
• Stakeholder management â€'' reporting local plans and activities to EMEA, Home Office teams and filmmakers.
Team Leadership
• Leading and developing a team while being part of the Universal UK Leadership Team, collaborating and influencing overall UK marketing plans.
• Responsible for inspiring the development and growth of all members of the team.
• Be the driving force for excellence in the marketing team.
• Define team KPI's.
• Support and communicate effectively with Irish office to ensure they are on strategy.
Communication
• Ensure clear & efficient flow of information and regular updates to EMEA and Home Office teams regarding all campaign activity.
• Encourage proactivity and optimum communication flow across team functions, deliver efficiencies to ensure they â€'' and all key stakeholders - have access to all campaign critical information at the appropriate time.
• Host regular team updates to ensure the marketing team are generating fresh and relevant ideas, that campaigns are evolving in line with expectations of the release and that the marketing team remains on strategy.
• Represent the Universal UK and Eire theatrical team by presenting at company hosted launches, media events, promotional partner events, exhibitor events, filmmaker presentations, global and regional conferences.
Budget
• Financial responsibility for yearly slate Marketing Plan including all aspect of the marketing mix.
• Responsible for key supplier negotiations including media agencies, creative agencies, and digital agencies.
• Alongside media agency, develop and oversee media owner negotiations for annual OOH deals and special partnerships to effectively plan ROI.
Reporting
• Facilitate cross-functional initiatives including leading, organizing, mobilizing, and planning internal UK task force meetings, brainstorm sessions and/or external filmmaker presentations.
• Communicate and work with filmmakers during the campaign planning process, as required.
• Act as point of escalation for any immediate issues that need mitigation.
• Act as key liaison with Home Office and EMEA teams keeping them up to date on campaign activity, insights, and local plans.
Media
• Interpret tracking and other measurement signals to refine marketing campaign on an ongoing basis.
• Management of media agency relationship including optimization of profitability.
• Manage performance monitoring, optimization and reporting of all marketing activity, and action adjustments where necessary to ensure optimization for maximum performance, reach, and return on investment.
• Identify and champion new growth opportunities through insight driven campaign analysis.
• Lead the UK's data strategy and incorporate intelligent data collection and reuse into all activity across the Universal digital estate.
• Work closely with the EMEA media team and media planning agency to align on global strategy.
• Oversee digital strategy including audience planning, biddable vs. reservation mix, appropriate targeting, and restrictions
• Oversee the marketing campaign paid media performance across all major digital platforms and programmatic to ensure proper delivery against audiences and relevant KPIs.
Exhibition
• Act as key contact for senior exhibition marketing teams, working closely with EMEA on title opportunities.
• Oversee trade activity including budgets, creative and first to market opportunities to position Universal market leader.
Innovation
• Seek out new and different approaches and ideas to bring originality to each film. Ensure recommended ideas are within strategy.
• Proactively bring new and different ideas and examples of innovative marketing â€'' whether tactical or strategic â€'' to the attention of the wider marketing team to spark new thinking.
Qualifications
• Significant relevant film marketing experience from a Theatrical marketing business
• Experience of managing and developing a sizable team of marketing professionals
• Excellent internal and external stakeholder management with the ability to collaborate with and influence people at different levels of the business
• Demonstrable experience of managing and developing a sizeable team of marketing professionals
• A track record of managing significant budgets and intimate knowledge of media, especially digital â€'' you will be able to drive decisions about buying tv, outdoor, radio, press, social, digital and will be able to demonstrate experience of running multi-million-pound campaigns.
• High level of knowledge of the ever-evolving UK Media Landscape, with the ability to make quick and effective judgements on campaign planning
• Demonstrates a high level of commercial and financial acumen
• The ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously and perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment
