Universal Pictures International (UPI) is the International Distribution and Marketing division for Universal Pictures. In the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, France, Korea, Australia, Mexico, Hong Kong and China, UPI directly markets and distributes movies through its local offices, creating campaigns and release strategies that respond to the culture and market behaviour of those territories. In other parts of the world, UPI partners with Paramount and Sony in the distribution of all three companies' films. Reporting in to and working closely with the Marketing Director, you will define and lead UK theatrical publicity campaigns, by:
• Driving innovation and high value publicity activity, working with EMEA and HO team to deliver successful publicity campaigns.
• Supporting day to day delivery of all aspects of the publicity plan.
• Overseeing and managing premieres, screenings, and events, delivering robust post event reports to HO and EMEA.
• Maintaining and optimize UK publicity budget.
• Managing our in-house publicity team and external agencies.
• Developing the UK influencer approach and execution.
• Developing and nurturing strong relationships with various media outlets, working across print, broadcast and online.
• Focusing on delivering big event moments that cut through with tangible results.
• Working closely with the marketing team, media promotions team, online agency, and UK sales team to ensure the strategic direction for each release is successfully implemented to plan.
• Providing professional growth among team members giving clear instruction and guidance in developing skills.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Campaign Development:
• Work closely with HO and EMEA on each specific Universal theatrical title to develop a strategic publicity plan through to release.
• Build effective working relationships across the marketing team, reporting on publicity campaign progress.
• Responsible for overseeing publicity kick-off brainstorms for the slate to ensure that each film has a strong raft of creative ideas specific to its objectives and strategy and subject matter
• Lead UK on set publicity access discussions
• Responsible for UK editorial approach
• Execute best in class publicity campaigns that span offline and online
Financial management:
• Responsible for managing the publicity budget for UK including talent tours, premieres, and special events
• Work to maintain campaign budgets and maintain budget reconciliation for UK activities.
• Take a lead role in supplier negotiations for press tours, premieres, and junkets.
• Work closely with EMEA on budgeting for all events
Communication:
• Ensure regular updates are given to Marketing Director and MD on title progress/status within any given campaign.
• Present publicity plans to EMEA and HO teams on a regular basis, keeping them informed of changing local trends.
• Maintain a good working knowledge of internal systems including PUMA (Marketing Portal) Upimedia (Press Images Site) and SAP (Finance Tool).
• Act as point of escalation for any immediate issues that need mitigation.
Reporting:
• Act as principal point of contact for UK publicity and report back on status to the Home Office Publicity, EMEA Publicity, as well as Senior Executives
• Ensure that regular reports are available on each title
Materials:
• Ensure that all communication going out is within strategy and guidelines including EPK, Unit Stills and clips
Innovation
• Proactively bring new and different ideas and examples of innovative publicityâ€'' whether tactical or strategic â€'' to attention of the publicity team to spark new thinking.
• Leverage use of data to inform and expand publicity campaign planning and opportunities across the region.
Qualifications
• Demonstrable theatrical publicity experience; studio or agency-side
• First class knowledge of all aspects of publicity in the UK media landscape including a deep understanding of the social media and influencer landscape.
• A strong creative thinker that is capable of multi-tasking and working to tight deadlines within a fast-changing environment
• Successful track record in high profile, event-level publicity, with experience of leading campaigns with large budgets
• Experience in successful stakeholder management across UK, EMEA and International
• Proven network of industry contacts, including UK publicity agencies and UK media.
• Exceptional communications skills, both written and oral, with a desire to collaborate.
• Proactive, enthusiastic, and positive approach to work. • • Experience in people management; able to demonstrate a proven ability to lead, motivate and inspire high performance.
• Self-starter who can demonstrate creative and critical thinking abilities and problem-solving skills
