Universal Music Group is currently seeking a Director of Acquisitions for the Universal City, CA office.
Job Summary:
The Acquisitions Director will identify, pursue and source content for all windows of distribution – Theatrical, DVD, TV and Digital. The Director is the primary contact for all inquiries, solicitations and proactively reaching out to content providers. This person will manage excellent relationships with producers, studios and senior management while meeting acquisition objectives, and helping to set the Company’s acquisition strategy. The position will be responsible for managing VE tracking schedule, screening films, interfacing with internal stakeholders and making recommendations to senior management.
Job Functions:
•Primary contact with content providers, agencies, representatives during the evaluation stage.
•Screen, review and analyze content from a creative and commercial perspective.
•Provide strategic and analytical guidance on all new content opportunities.
•Negotiate term sheet and steward the deal with legal and 3rd party to completed deal.
•Provide continuing research efforts on competitive landscape and prospective content suppliers.
•Review, plan and coordinate all Film Festival calendars.
•Successfully manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications:
•3-5 years of experience in acquisition of film product
•Bachelors degree, some education in film. MBA or JD degree preferred
•Solid understanding of film production, distribution in all windows and the key industry players
•A strong knowledge and understanding of film economics and reading P&L’s
•Ability to think creatively and independently, as well as collaboratively
•Ability to operate in a highly collaborative manner and work in pressure situations
•Excellent negotiating and people skills
•Polished presentation skills, ability to appeal to variety of customers
•Ability to craft and deliver executive-level presentations
•Ability to communicate with all levels of management and executives
•Show a high degree of self-motivation and teamwork
