The Senior Human Resources Manager, Southern Europe & Africa will provide proactive HRM support to Turner EMEA's Southern Europe organisation (France, Spain, Italy & Africa) and CNNiC team in Paris, totalling circa 230 employees. The individual will be a key partner to the Southern Europe Management team with lead responsibility for all HR matters in the region. They will provide day-to-day HR support to the SVP Southern Europe, country General Managers and functional leaders on talent management, performance reviews, change management processes, succession planning, recruitment, restructuring, and local implementation of EMEA-wide initiatives.
Essential job functions
• Build effective relationships with the Southern Europe Management team as well as managers/employees across the region to ensure that you are a trusted partner and confidante for strategic, operational and best practice advice on a range of HR issues
• Manage/oversee (consultation and administration) employee relations cases as required by employment law and ensure that managers are coached and supported in managing the processes fairly and appropriately
• Act as the primary point of contact, alongside the Company's management representative, for the Works Council in France and be responsible for resolving and responding to issues raised in a timely manner, following proper consultation
• Where required, advise business unit heads and their managers on changes to structures, job roles and definitions, reporting lines, new ways of working, process improvements, role eliminations etc.
• Undertake and manage projects and new initiatives as directed by the Executive Director, HR, EMEA (both within the Southern Europe regional business and across the wider EMEA business) to support the achievement of the HR and Business strategy
• Work closely with the London-based Specialist teams in Reward, Recruitment, Talent Management when specific expertise and assistance is required to provide a seamless and professional HR service
• Provide advice and support to managers, in association with the Reward team, on employee compensation (including benchmarking/pricing), remaining up to date with market practice and providing support on all reward related issues
• Advise on all aspects of effective performance management, ensuring that employees are set meaningful objectives and developmental plans, and the annual performance review process is completed by everyone
• As required, advise and coach managers on specific performance, conduct, absence or employee relations matters and ensure that all disciplinary and capability issues are dealt with in good time, sensitively, appropriately, and in accordance with local employment law
• Partner with managers and other stakeholders to ensure that employee health and wellbeing issues are well managed, ensuring return to work interviews take place, managers support and encourage high levels of attendance, and that absence is reported and monitored properly
• Review, suggest and implement training for the region, based on a training needs analysis
• Ensure a good understanding of the financial drivers of the business and competitive market activity to ensure HR is well placed to provide commercial advice and respond to current and future business and labour market challenges
• Liaise and partner closely with the regional Finance Business Partner on annual budgeting, forecasting, and tracking of all ongoing people costs
• Working closely with the Southern Europe Management team and Reward team, to manage the annual merit review (and bonus schemes) ensuring fair, consistent and appropriate rewards in line with budgets
• Partner with our specialist Recruitment team to ensure that high caliber candidates are attracted to the business and provide timely and up to date advice to Managers to ensure compliance with employment/immigration legislation and best practice
• Work with hiring managers and the specialist Recruitment team to define recruitment needs and advise on all aspects of the hiring process, supporting them on creating or updating a job description, and participating in recruitment briefings
• Work closely (on a daily basis) with the relevant members of the HR Employee Services team, who should be the first point of contact for all HR administration, payroll issues, and first-line employee / manager queries in the region
• Responsible for the on boarding of all new employees in the region, partnering with the HR Employee Services team regarding offer letters, contracts and general new starter administration
• Ensure, in partnership with the HR Employee Services team, the timely communication of written changes to terms and conditions of employment e.g. promotions, job title changes, leavers, salary changes, new contracts, ensuring that personnel files are updated and maintained
• Take proactive steps to ensure all HR systems, local policies and procedures are updated regularly to take account of new and forthcoming employment legislation
• Ensure the effective use, management and maintenance of all data held on the company's HRIS
• Support and advise on the implementation of the company's Diversity strategy and related policies and procedures, particularly in relation to recruitment, promotion, career development, and creating an open, inclusive and appropriate culture within Turner where differences are respected and valued
• Develop effective relationships across the EMEA HR Team, and seek out opportunities and joint working that may benefit Turner across Southern Europe
Person specification
• Significant relevant professional experience and proven experience providing multi-country / multi-territory HR support across Southern Europe (including France, Spain and Italy)
• Fluency in English and French are essential requirements for this position; competency in Spanish and Italian are desirable
• Strong service delivery orientation in combination with an innovative mind, tenacious approach and a highly collaborative nature is essential
• A completer/finisher, able to get things done and be proactive and responsive
• Detailed understanding of French employment law and a working knowledge of employment law across Italy and Spain
• Experience of Works Council and/or Employee Representation (especially in France)
• Strong interpersonal and relationship skills, able to inspire confidence in the Southern Europe Management team and key stakeholders both within HR and outside HR
• Confidence and credibility to advise on a variety of HR related subjects and be able to influence Managers on HR best practice
• Strong intellectual capacity with the ability to analyse, understand and advise on sometimes complex HR issues from a commercial perspective and with cultural sensitivity underpinned by a detailed understanding of legislative and best practice requirements
• A real hands-on attitude, someone that can be proactive in identifying areas of improvement not only across the business but also in the HR team
• Willingness to travel within the respective countries (France, Spain, Italy) around 30-40% of the time, with occasional travel to London, is critical
• Experience working with and partnering remote teams, with cross border experience in a matrix structure is essential
• Experience working in a U.S organization is desirable
• Degree educated, preferably with a professional HR qualification
