This is a Full Time Job
The Director of Talent Negotiations is responsible for the negotiation, structure and administration of agreements for talent across CNN networks and platforms. The Director will act as a representative for the various CNN Networks and platforms with external agencies, will handle business matters pertaining to the talent agreements, and will provide advice and counsel to senior management.
The Daily
• Structuring and negotiating all major deal points in agreements for talent (anchors, correspondents, reporters) and contributors across CNN networks and platforms, as well as talent that appears in original series for CNN and HLN
• Establishing and maintaining relationships with internal clients, including regular communication regarding deal negotiation status. Timely responding to agencies and attorneys on deals and maintaining relationships with the same
• Actively tracking expiration and option deadlines, and working with senior management on deal renewals
• Reviewing and providing budgetary guidance related to the talent deals
• Collaborating with the legal team to get agreements signed and to ensure accuracy with negotiated deal terms
• Assists with other special projects related to talent
• Working closely day-to-day with various internal departments: Legal, Finance, Human Resources, Ad Sales, Research, Program Development, Accounting, Marketing, Public Relations, Promotions, S&P to provide advice relative to the talent agreements
The Essentials
• Four-year undergraduate degree (B.A./B.S.), as well as Juris Doctor required
• Minimum 3-7 years in either labor and employment law or Business Affairs
• Experience with employment agreements and independent contract agreements
• Demonstrated drafting and negotiation skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact with a range of personalities and styles and establish effective relationships externally and internally at all organizational levels
• Able to effectively communicate
• Strongly self-motivated with an ability to work independently as well as a part of a close-knit team
• Ability to make sound decisions under tight deadlines
• Attention to detail
• Experience in the news or television industry
