Turner Services Inc. seeks a Digital Technical Operator for the Sports – Studios Technology department.
This position is responsible for creating content for WarnerMedia audiences on digital, social, and linear platforms using a combination of emerging technology and traditional video production tools in a variety of environments, including our broadcast production facilities, on location, and remotely/virtually. While highly technical, this position also requires excellent planning and inter-personal communication skills and the ability to work in a high-pressure (but fun) live TV production environment across the News, Sports, Entertainment, and Sports portfolios.
The Daily
• Operates in a variety of roles on live and virtual productions, including Director, Technical Director, Technical Producer, Encoding/Streaming, Graphics, Feeds Manager, Social Extensions Manager, Media Manager, and other digital production roles as necessary
• Operates in a variety of supporting roles in other production scenarios, including camera, audio, lighting, pre-production, post-production, engineering, tech management, and logistics.
• New production roles emerge as technology changes: this position is designed to be applicable to new roles that haven't emerged yet, while supporting the styles of production we're already engaged in on a daily basis. Your willingness and ability to adapt is a key requirement.
• Able to operate proficiently and offer technical support in multiple production technologies, including but not limited to: Ross, Sony, BlackMagic, AJA, vMix, Wirecast, Wowza, LiveU; Windows, Macintosh, and Android operating system; digital monitoring & display; fiber, satellite, & IP transmission; and SDI, IP, AES, & analog video and audio.
• Works with leadership to plan for Special Projects, helping to build production systems and workflows based on the partners' needs. This includes making recommendations for specific tools and workflows, building and testing workflows during pre-production, and assisting with the technical details required in paperwork.
• Acts as a liaison between technical departments to plan, set up, troubleshoot, execute, and wrap productions. Must proactively seek information and solutions. You must know when to call engineers for help, and when to engineer solutions on your own or with your team.
• Acts as a secondary contact with Production Management, Scheduling, and Crewing to make recommendations for alternative staffing and scheduling solutions when necessary. You should know the strengths and weaknesses of your colleagues and be prepared to recommend alternative technicians and operators to keep our operation agile and adaptable.
• Represents WarnerMedia Studios with brand and corporate partners across the WarnerMedia portfolio, including legacy Turner brands, Warner Bros, HBO, and corporate entities, in a professional, service-oriented manner.
The Essentials
• Bachelor's Degree in Media, Communications, Technology, Production, or a related discipline.
• 2-5 years experience live TV and/or webcast production in control rooms and in the field. Must be familiar with video switching, audio mixing, signal routing, transmission, and streaming/encoding.
• 2-5 years experience in traditional ENG, cinema, or commercial production.Must be comfortable with video cameras, microphones and mixers, monitors, cable and connection types, converters, adapters, and support gear like tripods, c-stands, microphone stands, etc.
• 2-5 years experience in Information Technology: computer software and hardware, mobile devices and operating systems, Internet and network configuration; Windows, Macintosh, Android.
• Recent experience in emerging media. streaming video, and social media, as well as hands-on experience in traditional location, ENG, and broadcast video production environments.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to stay calm in stressful situations, comfortable working with every strata of media business colleagues, from backstage crew and freelance technicians to C-level executives and A-list Hollywood talent.
• Knowledge of video gaming culture, e-sports, and traditional sports: basketball, baseball, golf, etc. A passion for media culture and social media are a big plus.
• Broad knowledge of software, web site, and technology development processes and nomenclature.
