Duties: This position is responsible for the technical design and the installation of digital, state-of-the-art broadcast systems. This position, Engineering Project Manager (EPM), requires an in-depth engineering knowledge of current digital video, digital audio and broadcast IT system design, capable of designing high definition (SMPTE292)/standard definition (SMPTE259M) video, Dolby digital audio and broadcast file transfer systems.
The TEN NetOps facility differs from traditional broadcast environments in that it is based on a networked, file transfer architecture; therefore, this position requires….
An in-depth knowledge & understanding of high performance LANs, SANs, and Compute built on enterprise class components.
A thorough understanding of encoding, transcoding and file-based QC tools is required.
System design requires the determination of all parts and pieces needed to complete the project, the acquisition of all quotes from vendors, the formation of a cost estimate, and the submission and justification to leadership of the design.
Upon completion of the system design and funding approval, the EPM will engage with a system integrator and/or in house resources. The EPM will be responsible for overseeing all phases of the project, including the integrator's development of the 'build' set of drawing, the project budget, the project timeline, the installation & configuration of equipment, the test/debug of the system and the turnover to the operations group. At the time the system is released for operation, all documentation must be confirmed to be accurate and release to the engineering maintenance group.
The EPM will also provide system introduction and specific training to the engineering maintenance team. As the designer of the broadcast system, the EPM will possess the most thorough understanding of the system. Therefore, it may be necessary to provide ongoing system level support to the maintenance team on an as-needed basis. All such requests should be identified as opportunities to train the engineering maintenance staff on the correct support and operation of all areas of the broadcast system.
As owner of the budget for the project, the EPM will ensure the costs remain within the agreed to budget and that all charges posted to the project are accounted for. This position will require indirect supervisory responsibilities for project and integration engineers assigned to projects and may include other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: This position requires a Bachelors' degree in electrical/electronic engineering or a related field. An Associate degree with equivalent experience will be considered. Applicants should have a minimum of eight years experience in broadcast television maintenance; with at least 6 years experience in digital/high definition television systems. The applicant should have experience in broadcast facility design.
This position prefers an individual with experience in AutoCAD, and Microsoft Project, as well as the Microsoft Office applications. This position requires an individual with experience in all areas of play-to-air broadcast systems, including but not limited to automation, digital/analog audio and video (including Dolby E & AC3), control, video servers, routing as well as an in-depth knowledge & understanding of high performance LANs, SANs and Compute built on enterprise class components.
A candidate will also be required to have a thorough understanding of encoding, transcoding and file-based QC tools. The applicant should be familiar with broadcast industry standards (SMPTE, SCTE, IEEE, EBU, etc.).
