Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and creative Associate Technical Director to join our team. The ideal candidate possesses a strong understanding of all technical production disciplines, has expertise drafting production elements within Vectorworks, and experience leading technical planning through all project phases. This role involves working closely with our Creative and Art Directors to bring projects to life.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate closely with the design team and other key stakeholders to develop and support the execution of creative visions.
Lead technical planning and coordination for projects throughout the design process including: budgeting, RFP, vendor management, technical design, drafting and reports.
Serve as a primary point of contact for technical queries and issues, both internally and externally.
Oversee the implementation of technical designs ensuring projects are successfully executed.
Travel onsite as needed (~25% of the year).
Qualifications
Proven experience (3+ years) in a technical role within the live entertainment industry, with a strong understanding of live event production and touring processes and workflows.
Must have experience in lighting, video, and scenic disciplines. Additional experience with automation, rigging, power systems, special effects, networking, and audio are a plus.
Knowledge of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in live event production.
Proficiency drafting within Vectorworks and publishing technical packets.
Project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
Experience bringing creative visions to life using technical production elements.
Excellent attention to detail and ability to produce accurate and detailed work.
Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
Experience in maintaining positive relationships with production vendors.
Ability to travel as needed and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to support project requirements.
The ability to work well under pressure and solve problems quickly with little supervision.
Strong desire to think outside the box, innovate, and create creative solutions.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
Strong portfolio showcasing relevant experience and skills.
Comfortable leading large production teams and interacting with vendor department leads.
Concert touring experience is a plus.
