We're looking to for a rockstar Vice President, Music. You'll work directly for our General Counsel, and partner with our Product, Sales, and Marketing teams to bring music to our millions of customers. You'll be a high-impact player on your first day and have the opportunity to grow with our business.
Our Vice President, Music is responsible for leading a team of direct and indirect reports and cross-functional personnel in: (1) expanding, setting, and executing on the company's music strategy; (2) building and maintaining the company's critical relationships with music industry partners; and (3) ensuring efficient and effective music operations. These responsibilities involve leading a team of music professionals, fostering cross-team collaboration, overseeing project management initiatives, ensuring budgetary alignment with company objectives, and reporting to executive management to support the successful execution of company programs.
Your day-to-day:
Music Strategy: Lead a team of music professionals to drive company growth through its music and licensing strategy
• Serve as key business advisor to the company's executive leadership team with respect to its music and licensing business, including identifying opportunities for the music team to drive or contribute to the company's growth
• Lead the company in setting and achieving its music and licensing strategy in line with the company's objectives, including with respect to industry presence, promotional partnerships, and curation
• Lead the company in continuing to develop a trusted voice in music and interface with external stakeholders to advance the company's music industry presence
• Collaborate with the company's product, marketing, business development and sales teams to support cross-company growth initiatives
• Expand the music team's data capabilities to drive increased insights and optimize the company's music offering, including collaborating with the sales and marketing teams to create opportunities in additional market segments
• Own performance metrics related to music and its role in supporting broader business objectives
Licensing & Business Affairs: Build and maintain the company's relationships with music industry partners (e.g., record labels, publishers, performing rights organizations)
• Lead all negotiations for music licensing deals, including direct label, publisher and PRO agreements
• Establish and maintain effective relationships with music industry partners
• Serve as the company's primary licensing expert, ensuring compliance with music rights laws and contractual obligations (e.g., Music Modernization Act, CRB rulings, global PRO practices)
• Monitor developments in the music industry, including evolving licensing models, policy shifts and changes to applicable laws
• Play a key role in setting and achieving the annual licensing budget
Music Operations: Ensure effective and efficient music operations and support cross-functional operations
• Collaborate with the engineering teams to ensure effective, efficient music ingestion and rights management
• Evaluate the business impact of emerging technologies, such as AI automation, rights tracking platforms, and metadata management tools
• Lead a team in managing correct, on-time royalty payments
• Support the sales and marketing teams to ensure timely fulfillment of jukebox operator network needs
Team Leadership & Management: Manage the music team, including licensing managers, label relations professionals, and content operations specialists
• Develop and manage the music team's annual budget and employee development
• Champion a collaborative, forward-thinking team culture in alignment with company initiatives
• Set and achieve goals and performance metrics, including updating management on successes and opportunities
Your profile:
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor's or advanced degree in Business Administration, Music Business, or a related field. Law degree preferred
• At least 12 years proven experience in music licensing negotiation roles, either as a businessperson or a lawyer, with at least 5 years leading such negotiations and being responsible for their success
• At least 5 years leading a team of direct and indirect reports and owning performance metrics
• Deep knowledge of U.S. music licensing structures and digital licensing models. Experience with consumer data preferred
• Strong business acumen with experience advising executive leadership and contributing to strategic decisions
• Demonstrated success in building and leading cross-functional teams
• Exceptional communication, negotiation and relationship management skills.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities with a focus on results and a proactive approach to addressing challenges
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience working at or with a music streaming service, DSP, or media/entertainment platform
• Knowledge of emerging music technologies and data licensing practices
• Comfort with analytics, music reporting systems, and royalty compliance tools
