We are currently hiring for the position of:
TECHNICAL MANAGER, TIFF LIGHTBOX
The Technical Manager, TLB, is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day technical Booth operations for all Cinemas and Event Spaces within TIFF Lightbox, ensuring the successful delivery of screenings and live events to the highest presentation standards. Reporting to the Senior Technical Manager, TLB, this role leads technical planning, staff supervision, and operational execution.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Shall include but not limited to:
• Manage day-to-day technical operations of Projection Booth and Main Control Room
• Plan technical requirements for screenings and live events, and oversee equipment set-up, testing, rehearsals, special requirements, and troubleshooting
• Supervise, support, and train technical staff, ensuring compliance with established standards and procedures
• Oversee film and video presentations, including the organization of content to ensure smooth presentations
• Assist Senior Technical Manager, TLB, with maintenance of technical infrastructure, including equipment, signal routing, and data distribution systems
• Communicate technical information to technical staff in a timely manner
• Liaise with film representatives to facilitate the best possible presentation
• Collaborate with internal departments and external partners to ensure seamless event delivery
• Prepare operational and technical reports as required
• Prepare weekly Assistant Booth Manager and Projectionist staff scheduling and update as required to align with operational needs
• Ensure security and controlled access to technical areas
• Oversee Booth organization, maintenance, and upkeep
• Job Grade 3

WORK LOCATION:
• TIFF Lightbox: 350 King Street West, Toronto, ON M5V 3X5
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
• Minimum of 5 years supervisory and leadership experience
• Foundation in audio, acoustics, lighting, and staging
• Technical experience in film and video related technology
• Knowledge of digital cinema (DCP) playback and Dolby cinema sound systems
• Ability to perform general troubleshooting and maintenance on projection, sound, and lighting equipment
• Experience with live event production systems, including:
• Lighting control consoles, knowledge of DMX addressing and protocols
• Live audio consoles, specifically digital audio consoles (DiGiCo)
• Audio over IP protocol (Dante)
• Video production switchers and routing
• Experience with nonlinear editing software considered an asset (Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Media Encoder)
• A proficiency with Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X environments
• Knowledge of SMPTE standards for the calibration and playback of digital cinema and film presentations
• Knowledge and experience with traditional motion picture presentation formats, including 70mm, 35mm, 16mm, considered an asset
• Knowledge and experience with film and video inspection, including archival film handling, considered an asset
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong managerial and interpersonal skills, with an ability to remain calm under pressure
• A professional demeanor and a proactive, can-do attitude, with the ability to think quickly, remain flexible, and adapt effectively to changing priorities and situations
• Attention to detail is a must
• Ability to efficiently discern pertinent information from a variety of sources
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment as well as the ability to take and give direction effectively
• Adaptable to a flexible work schedule including some evenings and weekends
