We are currently hiring for the position of:
TIFF DOCS PRE-SCREENER, FESTIVAL PROGRAMMING
Reporting to the Senior Manager of Programming, the TIFF Docs Pre-screener is responsible for Pre-screening films and writing coverage for 25 international documentary Festival submissions each week, uploading coverage for each film to the relevant database record and recommending films to the relevant Programmers.
Responsibilities
• Pre-screening unsolicited international documentary Festival submissions on DVD or via online screeners;
• writing coverage on screened submissions, according to established templates;
• Uploading coverage for each film to the relevant database record in a timely manner;
• Recommending films to the relevant Programming Associate(s) and Programmer(s) according to established judging protocol;
• Attending Festival preview screenings and submitting notes as requested;
• Attending meetings with the Director of Programming and other Festival Programming staff as required;
• Participating in orientation/training sessions as required.
Minimum Requirements
• Knowledge of world cinema and the documentary form, in particular;
• Previous pre-screening or programming experience;
• Experience writing about film (criticism, essays, articles);
• Proven ability to provide high quality work within strict deadlines;
• Degree or diploma in Film Studies or related area, or relevant industry experience, preferred;
• Adaptable to a flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekends.
