Pipeline Software Engineer
Summary:
Pipeline Software Engineers are part of a team that creates and maintains a diverse set of tools for visual effects production, with a focus on improving efficiency for artists and production management. Pipeline Software Engineers also work directly with artists and production management to assess needs, train, and support. The position reports to the Director of Technology.
Responsibilities:
• Work with artists, production management, and the R&D team to design and implement software to address evolving production needs.
• Optimize the existing pipeline with regard to I/O bandwidth and disk space utilization.
• Help with the process of integrating new 3rd-party applications into our existing pipeline.
• Advise CG Supervisors and conduct occasional artist training sessions in your areas of expertise.
• Troubleshoot and repair problems with the existing pipeline.
• Write and maintain documentation on new and existing studio tools.
• Adhere to studio development standards and participate in code reviews.
• Be willing and able to learn new software, programming languages, and techniques that will be required to fulfill the above duties.
Qualifications:
• Requires Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• At least 4 years of Python development experience required; 2 years of C/C++ development experience preferred.
• Must have a mature approach to software design and implementation
• Strong knowledge of UNIX/Linux required. Windows and/or OS X development experience a plus.
• Good written and verbal communication skills required.
• Familiarity with media post-production workflow required. Production experience as an artist is a plus.
• Relational database design and implementation experience highly desired. Experience with other data-store technologies (Redis, etc.) highly desired.
• Experience with the following software and APIs is highly desired: Qt/PyQt, USD, Shotgun, RV, Maya, RenderMan, Katana, Clarisse, Houdini, Nuke.
• Experience designing and implementing effective graphical user interfaces highly desired.
• Ability to work well independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Familiarity with software development and quality assurance best practices.
• Proactive and highly motivated. Career focus for the visual effects industry.
