The Segment Design team is responsible for the instructional design, development, and implementation of learning experience for segment specific training interventions. These solutions will be a blend of multiple approaches, including instructor led, blended, experiential, media based, performance support, and other emerging technologies. This team will partner with Segment and COE learning teams and clients to provide an effective and efficient interface to the learning content development team.
The Manager, Segment Designis a leadership position which oversees a team who will design, write, and project manage learning content. They are responsible for acting as the primary point of contact for client organizations and acting as high level project managers.
The Manager, Segment Design is also responsible for the instructional design and development of learning experiences which leverage a variety of approaches to deliver learning, including: instructor led, blended, experiential, media based, performance support, and other emerging technologies. This role requires a high degree of analytical ability to identify gaps in performance and creativity to propose and develop the appropriate solutions to resolve said issues.
This role interacts directly with teams of individuals within the learning organization and with client representatives; therefore, individuals are required to work with a high degree of collaboration and a must have a strong client service orientation. Additional skills and knowledge which are required for this role are project management, instructional writing, and a thorough understanding of adult learning theory principles.
This position may sit in Southern California (Burbank or Anaheim) or Florida.
Responsibilities
• Lead a team in managing and developing creative and innovative learning solutions
• Assess learning needs accurately and propose creative and effective learning solutions to meet learning goals
• Work with Subject Matter Experts to develop curriculum in specific field
• Design or assess instruction that is learner-centric, creatively keeping learners engaged and leading to their ability to grow or advance their knowledge or skills
• Manage learning projects from needs analysis to deployment, taking into consideration the complexities of creating training for audiences with diverse needs
Basic Qualifications
• 2 or more years of experience leading and developing a high-performing team of salaried direct reports
• 2 or more years of robust experience in instructional design principles and practices
• Strong consultative skills, and the ability to shape thinking in clients and stakeholders at all levels
• Proven strong ability to work in a deadline-oriented environment
• Proven ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, creative and collaborative environment
• Demonstrated strong organizational skills with attention to detail
• Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills including a proven ability to write in a clear and grammatically correct manner
• Demonstrated partnering skills and the ability to interact effectively at all levels
• Demonstrated effective facilitation skills with the ability to provide relevant examples to leaders at all levels within the organization
• Previous experience working within The Walt Disney Company
• Proven experience driving learning solution design through all phases from concept, presentation, design, development, facilitation, evaluation, refinement, and implementation.
• Experience designing and/or facilitating for various platforms; such as classroom, self-paced and social learning to support the 70:20:10 aspect of learning.
• Ability to create, articulate, and present highly creative pitches to a variety of stakeholders.
Required Education
• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience
Preferred Education
• Masters degree in Adult Learning, Instructional Design or Business Administration (MBA) or equivalent work experience
