About the Role & Team
Are you an Editor with editorial experience in adult fiction? At Disney Publishing, we are looking for a highly creative Editor who will work with the Hyperion Avenue editorial team to create new trans-media Intellectual Property for adult audiences in addition to working on acquisitions at the team's direction! Adult IP development experience is preferred, you will have an awareness of current pop culture trends and media, have exceptional writing skills, and have excellent author and agent-care skills.
You will report to the Executive Editor
This is a Full-Time role.
What You Will Do
Every single day in the Editor role is different! On any one day, you might:
• Curate a commercial list of adult fiction in line with Hyperion Avenue's goals
• Develop and/or acquire 6 to 10 titles per year across formats
• Participate in intellectual property brainstorming meetings
• Write and revise proposals for new fiction and non-fiction properties
• Edit manuscripts, write editorial letters, execute line edits, and route manuscripts through production
• Present titles at acquisitions, launch, and focus meetings, as well as at sales conferences
• Prepare acquisition paperwork, including acquisition memos and P&Ls; track paperwork for approved projects through the acquisitions process
• Set up and manage projects in the title management system
• Draft fact sheets, catalog copy, bound galley copy, and jacket/cover copy
• Communicate with authors, agents, illustrators, and other collaborators
• Manage and process payments for titles; track payments and troubleshoot problems
• Vet and redline contracts
• Partner with multiple departments within the Disney Book Group and The Walt Disney Company as a whole
• Support senior editorial staff as requested
Required Qualifications and Skills
• Minimum 3 years of experience in adult editorial
• Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently
• The ability to brainstorm new ideas with a large team
• An ability to be flexible in approach regarding story development while also having a proven understanding of plot and character
• Experience working across at least three adult-targeted genres including thriller, horror, sci-fi fiction, romance, crime, and mystery
• Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills
• Established relationships with literary agents; negotiation skills
• Experience managing books through the editorial/production process
• Knowledge of the adult fiction marketplace (books, TV, film, audio, online)
• Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
• Proficiency in Office suite
Preferred Qualifications
• Adult IP development experience
Education
• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience

The hiring range for this position in New York, NY is $64,800 to $89,100 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
