Director (Writer), Employee Communications – Project Hire
Job Summary:
The Walt Disney Company specializes in storytelling, and as the Director of Employee Communications, you'll be a proactive leader in creating and telling the Walt Disney Company employee story. By working in conjunction with Disney's world class HR and Communications teams, the Director of Employee communications with have opportunities to make a meaningful and lasting impact on the employee experience
The Director, Employee Communications will work closely with the VP, HR Communications Strategy in crafting of communications related to TWDC's future growth and vision. This role is an excellent opportunity to showcase strategic thinking and expertise with superior writing capabilities and versatility. Reporting to the VP, HR Communications Strategy, this position works closely with partners across Communications and HR. In terms of day-to-day responsibilities, this role will focus on written communications to employees, presentation materials, and other written materials.
This is a project-hire role, with no guarantee of permanent placement. The forecasted length of this executive project-hire is 12-18 months, though this is subject to change, pending the business needs.
Responsibilities:
• Work closely with VP, HR Communications Strategy, to draft materials for TWDC employees
• Develop consistent, cohesive themes and messages to convey TWDC's vision and business priorities in a compelling and credible manner to an internal audience. Materials will include, but not be limited to:
• Executive announcements
• Org changes
• Executive communications
• Presentations
• Seek opportunities proactively to consult with leaders regarding the communication of their vision, strategy and priorities
• Partner with HR Functions (Talent Acquisition, Learning, Compensation & Benefits) to envision and execute a comprehensive communication strategy to create an employee experience that is on par with our guest experience – elevating our language and creating a consistent message for our employees
• Create a library of assets in collaboration with HR Functions and communication peers
• Develop internal presentations, speeches and collateral materials focused on key strategic growth initiatives, priorities and vision/mission of the company/transformation
• Drive the internal communication strategies to support the communication of the corporate vision and business priorities through multiple channels (face-to-face, print, online) – work with Senior Manager, Corporate Employee Communications on this element
• Provide thought leadership for communication materials to help achieve TWDC strategic goals of reputation enhancement and being seen as an employer of choice
• Utilize employee data from the Enterprise People Insights team to drive communication that speaks to ''what matters most'' to our employees
• Prepare key messages for executives participating in employee-facing events
• Develop employee-centric communications -- presentations, video segments, scripts, talking points and executive perspectives.
Basic Qualifications:
• Minimum of 7-10 years of professional corporate communications, event management, public relations
• Demonstrated strong writing, speech writing, research and editing skills
• Previous experience in developing content for formal remarks, online content and emails
• Ability to create documents quickly and communicate effectively under pressure
• Ability to serve as a strategic thought partner
• Demonstrated ability to develop effective communication products requiring minimal editing and rework
• Experience in developing products that are designed to tell a story by educating and persuading key stakeholders
• Ability to translate complicated concepts into clear, compelling language for various audiences
• A highly collaborative approach
• Ability to manage constantly changing priorities
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with people at all levels of the organization
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure
• Advanced skills in creating Keynote and PowerPoint presentations
Required Education
• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience
Preferred Education
• Advanced Degree in Communications, English, Journalism or a related field
