Job Summary:
Legal Affairs for FX Networks is searching for an attorney to work in the role of Associate Principal Counsel who will provide support in structuring, negotiating, drafting and advising on deals relating to the development and production of television programming, as well as performing as production counsel for such programming.
Responsibilities:
• Draft, negotiate, and oversee a wide variety of entertainment agreements, including those involving the development and production of television pilots and series.
• Act as production counsel for pilots and series produced in whole or in part by FX Productions, including providing analysis and advice in connection with legal rights and obligations, intellectual property matters (chain of title, trademarks, copyrights), claims, production clearances (defamation, rights of publicity and privacy), and other matters.
• Provide general oversight and legal supervision over all legal matters that relate to assigned projects.
• Provide counsel to creative, business affairs, and production executives, and to television writers and producers with respect to original and complex fact-based projects.
Basic Qualifications:
• A JD and a minimum of 5 years of combined experience at a law firm and/or network/studio.
• Experience at a television network or studio and/or familiarity with production legal issues preferred.
• Strong drafting, negotiation and communication skills.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, prioritization and time management skills, along with the ability to work under tight deadlines and execute efficiently against multiple, high-priority and high-volume projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Exceptional ability to respond to and interact with creative and business executives at all levels of seniority and any degree of familiarity with legal issues in a manner that is personable, professional, and useful.
• Exceptional facility with spotting issues, assessing and communicating risks, making common-sense decisions, and finding flexible/creative solutions to achieve business goals.
• Strong ability to work independently and to contribute positively as a collaborative member of a team, with a strong commitment to curiosity, learning, and excellence.
• Enthusiasm for developing skills and experience alongside an evolving business with innovative ideas.
Required Education
• JD required (with CA Bar membership)
