Senior Manager, Production Management (Animation)
Job Summary:
We are looking for a Senior Manger to manage the production of Europe and Africa- originated animated series for Disney's media networks, including linear channels and streaming services, across the region and globally, including both co- productions and wholly owned Disney content.
This is a permanent opportunity based in our EMEA head office in Hammersmith, London. The scope of this role will oversee projects at all stages of the development and production to meet creative aspirations within agreed contractual, budget, timeline and technical requirements.
This role will have shared responsibility for an overall co-production or wholly owned budget and lead Production Management role on assigned animated series, including wholly-owned or Disney co-produced series & digital content.
The successful candidate will own the relationship management of all project stakeholders both internal & external (Producers, co-producers, suppliers, key creative, production, technical) throughout the production. Leading production teams as assigned, setting objectives & effectively managing on-going performance to ensure delivery against annual AOP & 5Yr Development plans.
Responsibilities:
• Maintain an overview of all aspects of project life cycles; fiscal management, monitoring of legal & compliance, and creative process
• Responsible for the management & maintenance of production plans on assigned series, including assigning the most appropriate resources, and use of greenlit budget allocations
• Contribute into the development process of crafting project proposal plans for greenlight; recommending pipelines & teams that focus on successfully delivering shows to defined parameters, taking into account the nature of production & any risk factors
• Develop overall production plans & schedules working with all key project stakeholders to factor in wider business requirements
• Collaborate on assigned pilot production & pick-up process, including budget & schedule
• Consult with Business/Legal Affairs to facilitate their effective oversight of contracts, residuals, music, insurance/s, clip clearances, IP & postproduction issues
• Provide regular reporting materials for Finance team/s to ensure they have oversight of production spending, tax implications and financial compliance
• Collaborate with all key stakeholders to ensure that all productions are compliant with Disney's standards of business practice, production handbooks, health & safety, content protection & legal requirements
• Collaborate with Talent, Programme Strategy, Marketing, PR, Franchise, Music departments as / when necessary
• Produce regular production reports for all series in production, for internal reference
• On-going, arrange regular forums to communicate with Project production teams, as well as internal stakeholders to track progress & assess business opportunities to promote the show/s or scheduling
• Troubleshoot as the need arises
• Oversee delivery & full (creative & technical) acceptance of all assets of each series, including original language master tapes, alternative language delivery, and postproduction deliverables and marketing assets
• Manage allocation of all deliverables
• Communicate with all Disney colleagues, (including other global partners when necessary) on an on-going basis with production & delivery progress
• Anticipate & organize timely one-off production elements with co-producers, including voice castings, series theme song, and opening & end credits treatment, companion 'shorts', PR initiatives
• Communicate & collaborate with Development & Current Series colleagues, to provide production management solution to support all creative needs
• Collaborate with Disney production colleagues worldwide; assess & improve production set up & execution from series to series
• Represent Disney point of view to producers. Uphold network standards of business conduct & production guidelines. Carry forward standard induction programme to any assigned FTC's
• Maintain a roster of production talent, studios & execs, including core staff & freelance talent. Represent Disney at trade markets to gain external networking opportunities for the benefit of OPD
• Uphold Disney standards from development to greenlight & delivery working with internal stakeholders from Procurement to Media Distribution recognising their remit
Basic Qualifications:
Skills & Experience
• Substantial, proven experience in animated series production at Senior Manager, or equivalent level working across multiple genres of animated processes (2D, 3D, CG)
• Knowledge of production management, accounting, reporting systems
• Strong knowledge base of facilities & services relevant to animation production: being able to assess capabilities & capacities, strength & weaknesses
• Technical knowledge pertaining to series production across all forms of the animation techniques
• Maintain knowledge base of current & developing working pipeline practices, different of unusual / emerging technological, production requirements & monitoring tools, formats & tech specs
• Ability to anticipate each step of production, scheduling & budgetary issues
• Ability to inspire & enthuse co-producers; & build strong teamwork with studios worldwide
• Leadership and interpersonal skills - Hands on experience as HOP / Production Exec or Line Producer level: ability to critically assess progress, anticipates production issues, provide solutions & promptly supervise the execution of new measures
• Exceptionally organized & high level to attention to detail: ability to produce accurate internal production reports; to evaluate production proposals, progress reports from co-producers meticulously
• Flexible & result-oriented: not afraid to challenge the status quo; be pro-active to suggest new approach, or the best result for a project at any stage. Always ready to 'go the extra mile'& embody the Disney ethos
• Resourceful being able to offer options & BATNA's to resolve production challenges
• Commercially aware of financial structures in the animation landscape including tax incentives, quota obligations, and distribution models
• Ability to negotiate effectively, especially in resolving production problems with co-producers, and maintaining Disney's priority requirement in each production
• Additional language skills are a bonus
• Experience working with talent Inc. minors
• Experienced in producing risk assessments and knowledge of industry regulations for safe management of productions (animation)
