THE JOB
This role requires a leader oriented towards operational excellence, who can balance strategic planning with hands-on venue management. You'll work closely with internal teams, suppliers, and external promoters to maximise revenue opportunities, oversee food & beverage operations, maintain and update facility infrastructure and ensure compliance with all licensing and statutory requirements. WHAT THIS ROLE WILL DO
Venue Operations & Team Leadership
-Oversee the effective operation of The Union Event Center, ensuring all events are commercially maximised and statutory duties are met.
-Proactively identify operational gaps or emerging challenges and implement solutions before they impact artist, patron, or promoter experience.
-Manage all venue teams, including full-time staff, casual event staff, and contractors.
-Act as a hands-on leader during events, empowering teams to execute effectively while keeping big-picture standards in focus.
-Ensure high standards of customer service and patron experience.
-Oversee food & beverage operations to maximise profitability and service quality.
-Develop clear processes, training materials, and SOPs that allow day-to-day operations to run smoothly.
-Serve as the venue's central point of accountability, ensuring consistency in execution across departments, events, and teams.
Strategic Planning & Business Growth
-Develop and implement annual business plans in collaboration with the Venue Owner.
-Work with external promoters and private event teams to maximize venue utilisation and event revenue.
-Drive the venue's commercial growth by designing and implementing scalable systems, creative event programming, and operational innovations.
-Coordinate supplier and sponsorship relationships.
Financial & Compliance Management
-Ensure financial targets are met, including AFP (Ancillary Per Fan) revenue goals.
-Manage budgets, including operating and capital expenditure, and oversee financial reporting.
-Ensure all licensing, OH&S, and risk management obligations are met.
-Ensure all alcohol service operations are fully compliant with Utah's Department of Alcoholic Beverage Services (UDABS) regulations, including licensing, service protocols, and staff training.
-Monitor and manage lease compliance, asset maintenance, and statutory requirements.
Facility Management & Infrastructure
-Oversee the long-term upkeep and performance of all building systems, ensuring the venue remains safe, functional, and presentation-ready for all events.
-Manage vendor relationships and service contracts for cleaning, security systems, waste management, technical maintenance providers and others as needed.
-Plan and oversee capital improvement projects, ensuring upgrades are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with long-term business goals.
-Ensure the venue meets all accessibility standards and remains inclusive and functional for all patrons, artists and staff.
Required Skills and Experience:
-Minimum 2 years of experience in venue management (required).
-Strong understanding of the live entertainment and venue industry.
-Proven ability to lead independently in a fast-paced, high-volume event environment with minimal oversight.
-Demonstrated knowledge of or experience navigating Utah's liquor laws and regulatory environment related to alcohol service in a venue setting.
-Proven track record of creating and implementing operational systems or SOPs that improve efficiency, consistency, and scalability across teams or departments.
-Excellent staff and contractor management skills.
-Strong knowledge of OH&S, risk assessment, and licensing requirements.
-Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and solve problems proactively.
-Strong verbal and written communication skills.
-Financial acumen, with experience managing budgets and reporting.
-Understanding of food & beverage management within a venue setting.
-Passion for live music and the entertainment industry.
-Ability to work weekends and late nights as needed based on show schedules.
