OVERVIEW: The Stolen Children documentary is looking for undergraduate and graduate students interested in using their social media and communication skills to promote a feature documentary about Cambodian adoption and cultural identity. Applicants will be reporting directly to the core development team throughout their shifts, and will receive hands-on industry experience, personalized letters of recommendation from the producers, and college credit in exchange for their innovative thought and commitment to the project.
INTERNSHIP TIMELINE
AUGUST 27TH: Internship applications close
AUGUST 23RD - AUGUST 30TH: Interviews; we will reach out for availability.
AUGUST 30TH - SEPTEMBER 3RD: Training week; 2 - 3 hour training meeting commitment throughout the week (depending on program).
SEPTEMBER 6TH - DECEMBER 17: Internship program; weekly four hour shifts.
INTERNSHIP STRUCTURE
Our development team is committed to making sure that interns are getting the most out of the program, the ability to directly consult with our team, and schedule times to work that best work with their schedule. Members of our staff are on call between the hours of 10:00 AM EST - 4:00 PM EST with a break between 12:00 PM EST - 2:00 PM EST; interns will be working alongside us throughout Monday and Thursday.
Accepted interns are committing to four hours of work a week. You will be scheduled for two 2 hour sessions a week, Monday through Thursday between either 10:00 AM EST - 12:00 PM EST or 2:00 PM EST - 4:00 PM EST. You may choose to split up your shifts or work both of them in one day. Once accepted into the program, we will do our best to schedule your sessions for what works best with your availability.
During your work session, you will report directly to the core development team through Slack, taking on daily assignments driving to promote the film and our social platforms. Interns with touch base with the day's shift manager at the beginning and end of their shifts to go over your goals for the day, and review your work afterwards.
THREE SOCIAL MEDIA AND WEBSITE TEAMS TO PICK FROM
As a social media and website intern, you will be placed in one of three teams. Please indicate in your cover letter which team you are aiming to be a part of, and be aware that you will be placed in a team based on a mix of availability, your personal preference, and your expertise/experience. The three teams are as follows:
TIKTOK INTERNS: TikTok interns will specifically work to research and identify viral TikTok trends that are applicable to our organization, produce and post TikTok videos and content (must be willing to be on camera and self-produce), and brainstorm and coordinate TikTok series that may include members of our production or development teams. Additionally, you will be responsible for identifying and adhering to posting timeframes with the most audience engagement, and thus must have an understanding of social insights and analytics. Video production knowledge is a must.
GRAPHIC DESIGN INTERNS: Graphic design interns will work specifically to produce innovative graphics and media for our Instagram and Facebook accounts, strategize social series to promote fundraising and marketing prerogatives, and take on other graphic design opportunities as needed (e.g. merch design, outreach packets, posters). Additionally, you will be responsible for identifying and adhering to posting timeframes with the most audience engagement, and thus must have an understanding of social insights and analytics. Photoshop, Illustrator, Canva (or other design platform) knowledge is a must.
WEBSITE INTERNS: Website interns will focus on managing and updating our website content, brainstorming and producing engaging blog posts (including conducting interviews, coordinating with the graphics teams or production team as needed, etc.), and strategizing innovative ways to reorganize or improve our website design and flow. Squarespace knowledge is a must.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Utilize social media platforms to advance the key goals of the organization, promote the film, and push fundraising campaigns.
Produce both written and visual content for social media channels, brainstorming viable trends, relevant content series, and posting strategies for promotion and virality.
Update and strategize website content, including producing blog posts, interviewing production crew and industry executives, and communicating innovative ideas.
Initiate new outreach and networking projects, reaching out to potential collaborators, publications, and activists willing to promote the goals and principles of the organization.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Excellent communication skills required; must be rehearsed in working in a remote environment and maintaining workflow through the day.
Extensive knowledge of social media trends and analytics required.
Ability to write to and communicate with organizations both interpersonally and through social media content persuasively, courteously, empathetically, and efficiently.
Must be interested in activism, cultural identity, and adoption ethics.
Art and graphic design skills preferred.
Video and photographic skills preferred.
