The Refinery is an award-winning entertainment advertising agency based out of Los Angeles, CA. We work with all of the major studios producing social, digital, and print creative campaigns for theatrical, television & streamer clients.

Enough about us, here's what we're looking for:

We're after a curious builder who treats Gen-AI video engines like a playground, turning rapid-fire testing, tweaking, and stitching raw model output into scroll-stopping promos and teasers. You'll own the loop from prompt to final grade, patching gaps with smart compositing, scripting, story-telling, music composition and traditional editing and visual effects. Every frame you create should feel intentional, on-brand, and ready for client eyes.

We're less concerned with polished resumes and more interested in standout portfolios and a genuine curiosity for AI. Show us that you experiment, explore, and push the limits. This is a new kind of role for a new kind of creative.

Responsibilities:
• You will build 15-60 second Gen-AI video spots from concept to final render: loop-free, flicker-free, cringe-free on an as-needed basis. Number of hours, days, etc. is up for discussion and flexible depending on the right candidate
• Occasionally build longer videos from multiple cohesive generations
• Craft iron-clad character and environment consistency across shots, sequels, and endless client revisions
• Design clever prompt workflows, reference boards, and frame-accurate shot lists that turn “make it pop” feedback into repeatable model inputs
• Collaborate with our internal teams so the final cut looks purpose-built, not “AI-ish”

Requirements:
• Proficiency in traditional editing / graphics tools (Premiere, After Effects, etc.) to hide every Gen-AI glitch in plain sight
• Deep familiarity with Gen-AI quirks: temporal drift, mouth-sync issues, lighting variance, and the hacks (or scripts) to neutralize them
• A rapid-fire, curiosity-first / iterative mindset. You are excited by new tools and see updates as opportunities (hello, Veo 3)

Bonus:
• Python scripting for batch prompt generation or frame-by-frame cleanup
• Experience fine-tuning models or curating training datasets to lock in brand style
• Knowledge of video compression voodoo

Salary Range:

$20-$50/hr

Please note you will be asked to provide your freelance rate in the application process. Ultimately, the rate offered will depend on qualifications, years of relevant experience, and skillset. If your requirements fall outside the stated pay range, we still encourage you to apply.

Official working hours are 9:30 am–6:30 pm PST. However, hours can fluctuate depending on client requests, and may be staggered based on after-hours needs.

This position is remote and must be available to work on PST.

Next Steps:

Please provide a reel below that proves you can wrangle Gen-AI video models into telling a cohesive story using either Veo, Runway, Pika, Luma Dream Machine, Sora, or Stable Diffusion-based pipelines (if you're into that). Candidates without a portfolio will not be considered.
