This position plays a key role in the skillful setup, operation, and maintenance of audio visual systems and theatrical equipment for Education Department programs, live performances, and other Museum activities and events. The Audio Visual Specialist operates technical systems for programs and events in the Uris Center for Education, Grace Rainey Rogers Auditorium, and other spaces across the Museum.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
• Setup, operate, and monitor staging, lighting, audio, and video technology around the Museum including the Uris Center, Grace Rainey Rogers Auditorium, and other locations around the Museum.
• Routine inventory and maintenance of AV and theatrical production equipment.
• Monitoring, maintenance, and operation of audiovisual installations in gallery exhibitions.
• Monitoring and maintenance of digital signage around the Museum.
• Other related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience and Skills:
• Experience with audiovisual technology such as ''smart'' classroom media technology including Crestron and Extron control & matrix routing systems, interactive touch screens and Lutron or similar room lighting systems.
• 3 to 5 years of experience working in corporate AV, event production, or technical theater.
• Experience operating and maintaining theatrical staging, lighting, audio, video, and electrical systems.
• Ability to read, understand, and execute work based upon technical drawings
• Basic skills in the use of construction equipment such as hand tools, soldering irons, rigging equipment, etc.
• Must have a working knowledge of both Windows and Mac computers.
• Must be comfortable communicating via telephone, walkie-talkie, digital messaging apps, online software, etc.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work with Met staff, external partners, and rental clients who possess varied degrees of technical expertise.
• Must have the ability to exercise extreme care when moving media equipment through art museum galleries.
• Manual dexterity and ability to lift speakers, lights, props, etc.
Knowledge and Education:
• This is a union position. Selected candidates must either be a member of the Moving Picture Projectionists, Video Technicians, and Allied Crafts Union, Local 306 of the International Theatrical Stage Employees Union or must join the union after hiring.
• Degree or certificate from film, video, or live event production training program or commensurate experience. Bachelor's Degree preferred.
• InfoComm Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) a plus.
