The Braid's NEXT Emerging Artist Program is a unique and groundbreaking paid fellowship that provides professional development, networking opportunities and a platform for directors, writers and other creatives in their 20s and 30s who want to shape Jewish cultural arts. Each year, a group of six to eight new artists is selected through an application process to serve in a cohort that works together over a nine-month period to create a NEW Theatre production.
NEXT Fellows work collaboratively as a group and also in smaller teams of assigned tracks with varied responsibilities such as:
ALL FELLOWS
Learn The Braid style of theatre (November-May)
Promote program call for submissions and show via social media and creative marketing approaches (December-June)
Identify additional relevant and worthy pieces to adapt (February-March)
Attend as many final performances as possible (May)
Participate in program evaluation (June)
LITERARY TRACK
Learn how to source material, interview for stories and adapt written work for The Braid stage (November-January)
Read and Discuss Submissions (February)
Adapt select pieces for stage (March)
Source additional stories as necessary (March-April)
Curate lineup of pieces for final performance (April)
Attend at least two rehearsals for May salon (April-May)
DIRECTING TRACK
Learn the art of directing The Braid style of theatre (November)
Attend rehearsals for January & March Braid salons (December-January;February-March)
Work with Literary Team to determine casting needs (April)
Cast and Direct rehearsals (April-May)
Provide feedback to fine tune final script (May)
