The Big Ten Network is looking for a Coordinator to join the StudentU team in Chicago, IL! As a StudentU Coordinator, you are responsible for ensuring the successful production of more than 2,000 live sporting events annually by students at the Big Ten member institutions for the Network's B1G+ streaming platform. You'll work with athletic department staff and students to teach and instill best practices for broadcasting live sports and collaborate with a team of freelance Quality Control operators to make sure the games are up to Big Ten Network broadcast standards and stream to the B1G+ platform.
A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
• Oversee daily function of the B1G+ Operations Center, including working with freelance staff to ensure broadcasts successfully get on the air, and reviewing and editing feedback sent to students after each show
• Develop and conduct regular training for quality control operators to ensure alignment within the group on Big Ten Network and B1G+ style and production policies
• Assist in scheduling quality control operator shifts and assigning them to games to ensure there is proper coverage for all StudentU productions
• Assist with the creation of training manuals and documents to assist students in understanding and achieving StudentU production standards
• Work remotely with university staff and students to troubleshoot technical issues that arise prior to and during live broadcasts
• Collaborate with other departments including programming, streaming, social media, and more to ensure smooth end-to-end communication for games on B1G+ and to identify top plays and good coverage worth highlighting on the Network's social accounts
• Travel to campuses to provide students and on-campus staff with hands-on training and support (Less than 10% travel required)
• Other related duties as assigned
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
• 1+ years of prior experience overseeing live sports productions
• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
• Understanding of typical broadcast equipment (switcher, replay, graphics, cameras) and ability to troubleshoot issues related to that equipment efficiently and remotely
• Capability to manage multiple projects and provide solid decision-making skills in a high-pressure environment
• Available to work evenings and weekend hours, based on the live event schedule
NICE TO HAVE BUT NOT A DEALBREAKER
• Bachelor's degree with an emphasis on communication, journalism, or other related field
• Experience training students or peers in live broadcast or studio production
• Familiarity with the Big Ten conference and its member institutions
• Familiarity with playing rules and typical broadcast coverage standards for high-profile NCAA
