The Senior Equipment Engineer in the School of Theater, Film and Media Arts provides proactive direct management and oversight of all FMA film equipment for student film, video, digital cinema, and new media production. Orders, purchases, documents, configures, updates, and maintains all film equipment, camera systems, and software. Manages all equipment warranties. Provides correct configuration of film equipment computing systems, physical supports, and licensing. Expedites exposed student and faculty 16mm and 35mm film to external vendors for processing, and in-house high-definition film-to-digital transfers using BlackMagic Cintel. Assists the FMA technical committee and administration with setting and implementing strategic film equipment goals, in order to support and advance the FMA student programs and education process. Provides forecasts and strategic equipment goals for current and upcoming industry best practices. Performs simple in-house repairs by maintaining an inventory of tools, parts, and onsite equipment to perform low-cost maintenance. Assembles and configures specialized power supplies (and back-up power supplies) for cameras, lights, and other equipment as needed.?Provides order recommendations to the FMA technical committee, performs annual FMA tech fees ordering, and on-going equipment purchasing with FMA course fees. Reviews, tracks, and provides hardware and software updates for all film equipment. Creates and maintains Excel file with tracking data accessibly to the FMA Chair. Provides item-specific research (price, vendor, specs, reliability, compatibility, and general technical advice on current and emerging technologies) to support film equipment purchases, updates, and maintenance. Performs other duties as assigned.
